understand speeding on long trips since you're potentially gaining significant time. But do these idiots speeding down 35 MPH roads realize how dumb and trashy they are?

If you go home for lunch, based on that chart, you would save 24 minutes a day speeding. If you make $50 an hour, you'd get $5000 more per year if you sped.

but I would call it nonsensical if you won't be driving for hours.

Depends on the situation. If you're trying to make it to something (function, work, etc.) and you're borderline late, then getting there just a few minutes faster is meaningful.

I actually watched someone get pulled over this morning on my way to work (on Burbank).

I hate everyone else on the road except myself. I just want to drive with out any one in front of me, behind me or on the side of me.

I love when I am in downtown Dallas and some douche in their ricer or whatever car they are driving speed and go like 60 on the city streets just to have to slam the breaks at the light 2 blocks down the road. Then they repeat the process until the next red light.

So you're only driving one Trip in your life? That's it? You get in a car one time in your life and then you're done? The savings from speeding should be viewed on a cumulative scale over a long period of time.

Let's look at Trip C in the chart you provided.. which is the smallest amount of time saved out of any of the trips. That's 2.51 minutes. Not much for just one trip.

But if that is the trip to take to and from work 5 days a week, that is about 22 hours of time saved in a year. Almost an entire day of time saved just by driving a mere 10 mph above the posted speed. Not to mention that roads are DESIGNED for higher speeds than the posted speed. Safety is not an issue when driving 10 mph over the posted speed.

Chart doesn't say anything about driving 100 mph and the fuel savings. It isn't always about saving time. When I drive 100 from point A to point B, I save 40% on fuel than when I drive 60 mph.

This chart is miss leading.

"Hey everyone, want to know why I'm a pussy?" would have been a more appropriate thread title.

Trashy? No.
Dangerous? Yes.
Pointless? Yes.
Costly? Yes.

I drive 5 over on the interstate and highways like US 61at night and early mornings.

I don't understand the tailgating lane-jockey who thinks they're Ricky Bobby.

But I wouldn't use the word "Trashy" to describe them.
