No hardcore fisherman so mostly recreational.I always think about it this time of year but talk myself out of it. Around BTR its pretty much Lake Maurepas and the river area and False river (unless I missed one)

How much do you value independence on the waterways?

Are you going to use it more than three times a month every month?

Because if the answer is NO then it is not worth it.

Depends on how much you use it, and your mechanical ability if buying used.

If you dont live on the water you will not use it nearly as much as you think you will. Maybe the first year, but after that it will just be a big pain in the arse.

It's a whole lot cheaper to just convince a friend they should buy one.

As an investment? It's a horrible use of money.

That being said, I own one.

It's nice to take it out on a whim, but it's a losing proposition from a financial standpoint.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say

1. When you first buy the boat
2. When you're finally able to sell it

They say the 2 best days of boat ownership are the day you buy it and the day you sell it so I thank the general consensus is no. Also, I think it is crazy to finance a toy like that but some people do and for crazy long payoffs. However, since I moved back to NE LA, I have caught the bug too. I grew up on the Ouachita doing everything from tubing, skiing, kneeboarding, fishing, and duck hunting. If I could get a boat that I could incorporate all of that into one version, I might say, yes it is worth it.

If you have the money and can justify blowing it then it's not a problem. If you don't it's a big problem.

I would think about going with a guide before I bought one.

I have had 4. They were all money pits.

And where you store it? If you have to pay storage on top of not using it, I could understand how jimmies would get rustled.

Only people I have heard say this are poor, and/or limp wrists that can't turn a wrench.
