I say yes. No one heard of him or talked about him until he died. After he died he's talked about like the next Tupac.
Was I in a hole or something or did I totally miss the career of the "best" rapper of the millennium?

Rappers knew him. White people who want to pretend like they know hip hop cried about it just so they look “cultured”

I have never heard of most rappers of the past 20 years so I don't know.

I only remember the name because of the thread on here and can't say that I've heard about him since.

Well you live in Kenner and almost 40 years old.

I would guess 75% of the 2nd biggest metro in the United States knee who Nipsey was way before he died.

Put it this way, he was as well known in Los Angeles as Soulja Slim in Nola

I knew about Nipsey, heard some of his music, but I think he was more regional than national/international.

Chris, I knew Nipsey Hustle. Nipsey Hustle was a friend of mine. Chris, you're no Nipsey Hustle.

A Nipsey Hustle sounds like a candy your midwestern grandma would make.

“Oh hi there sweetie, I hope you don’t mind I brought some desserts. I’ve got snickerdoodles, nipsey hustles, husker dos and a brambleberry crumble, Don’tcha know.”

they make him out to be some big time businessman and activist because he owned a store and bought some real estate in the ghetto or something. he was a nobody before he died.

What a disconcerting remark that was. Completely reprehensible yet typical of these “posters.”

I read this and thought "Oh yeah, the guy in 'The Wiz'. Everybody knows him, but the name is Nipsey Russell"

so no, never heard of this rapper guy.
