My wife tries to keep everything and we've never had a storage, and we park her car in our garage. I just can't fathom needing a storage unit sans a short term moving situation.

Owning a business with very little on site storage. At $26 sq foot. Makes since to store supplies and disposables in a unit that cost .50 per ft.

Putting shite in storage = trashy
See, you thought that we’d all laugh and agree with you because something being trashy is the running joke these days on here. But this is just a dumb comment, and frankly, unnecessary. I can’t think of anything more congruous, more mundane, than having a storage space.

What do yall store there? I had one for 9 months while I was deployed. Cant imagine not having space for everything I'd own, I sell things that take up space and i dont use...

Storage places are like weeds on the outskirts of D.C. So many people are living in small housing and can not let go of their shite.

Is there THAT much demand for storage space?
When you think of all the useless shite that 90% of people store in these units, it's such a waste of money. People have those units with crap in there for a decade or more collecting dust sometimes until they die. A small % of people use the units for stuff they will actually use every now and then.

Life Storage is the same company that owned uncle Bob's storage

They took over one I had in Lafayette. Rent went up twice in 6 months. Got mine and 6 more broken into one night and they still didn’t put up security cameras.

In your case, might it benefit you to buy or build a storage garage on your property? Versus paying fees to someone else to store it for you?

Boomers have to put their old knick-knacks somewhere because their kids don't want it.
And the kids can't afford a house big enough for their own extra crap.

Sure, I'd save a boat load of $ to build on my property. But I could also just stack the materials in my garage, dining room or in a spare bedroom. But I don't want these items at my home. And my storage unit is located much closer to my business and accessible by employees when needed.

It’s kind of strange how we’ve gone through years and years of life without the need for all these self storage facilities, but now all of a sudden they are taking over. Do we really have that much shite?
The behemoth they planted on O’Neal right off the interstate really gets me, and in 10-20 years it’s going to be ugly as sin.

Some sin is beautiful. Have you ever seen two attractive women making out?

A new Life Storage is being built on Range & Rushing Road in Denham Springs.

Define outskirts. Just how far out are we talking about?
My parents divorced in 1994. My dad rented a local storage unit for his tools (some very expensive). He moved to New England in 1995 without emptying the unit, which was a huge mistake. It didn't get emptied until 2010, when our family came together to load up a truck, then my mom and I drove it up there to his place (he couldn't sit comfortably long enough to drive it himself due to a bad hip). That thing was rented for SIXTEEN YEARS.
Never, ever get a storage unit unless you have a firm short-term plan for how you're going to use it and when you're going to empty it out.

quote:can you go into to more detail about that because in my experience “storage” is where the shite you DON’T use goes.
My unit flooded twice since ‘16 forcing me to remove everything and replace.
When I read your thread my first thought was you had a couple of beds and some other furniture in storage(that you weren’t using) but after the flood you bought new furniture just to put into storage.
