Seems like all the towns around are either ghetto shitholes (Belle Glade, Pahokee) or white-trash havens (Clewiston, Okeechobee). Wonder why there's almost no nice lake-front property over there?

Not a pretty lake by any stretch of the imagination but holds some monster bass.

My brother, before he passed away, lived at the north edge of the lake in Okeechobee. I helped move him down there. His family still lives there.

I visited twice for a day each, and it's like any other small florida lake town.

Okeechobee was formed by a giant sinkhole. The shore is low lying and mostly surrounded by swamp. Very unappealing aesthetically. You would not want lakefront property there.

It's a swamp in an agricultural region, and you can go an hour in either direction and have waterfront property on the coast

If you have to drive through a place called Yeehaw Junction to get there the answer is yes.

That'd be Lake Cheniere.

The lake's beauty will lure you right into Bawcomville before you ever knew what happened.

If it is more than 10-15 miles from a coast, most of Florida is just as you described. Total shithole.

Great weather year round and, great golf and fishing within a half hour of anywhere in the state, crystal clear springs and creeks within a half hour of anywhere in the state. I mean it's no Alexandria or Jena, but you don't have to be on the coast in FL to enjoy it.
