If someone offered me free money to talk into a camera at any age, I’d do it

Why is Saban doing Aflac commercials? Some people will do damned near anything for more money, no matter how ridiculous it makes them look.

Cause he’s MF’ing Broadway Joe. You can’t keep the man off the stage.

Players in the 60s and 70s didn’t make a fortune. Most of them got jobs in the off-season

You aren't kidding. Joe Namath was the 1st round overall draft pick and signed the richest pro football contract ever at that time: $427,000 over three years. Adjusted for inflation, that's about $3.5 million and just over a million a year. That's like "mediocre player just hoping to stay on a roster" pay these days, and he was the most well paid of his day.

Also, Joe Namath's net worth is in the $20 million range. He's doing commercials because they're paying him well to do them, not because he's hurting for cash.

Many players in the 70s sold roofing and siding in the off season.

Tommy Casanova said every NFL player in the 70s had to get a job in offseason besides OJ Simpson

Yeah, but Tommy Casanova's job was slaying poon.

Tommy Casanova had Hollywood looks, played in the NFL, and then became a doctor and didn't get married until his late 30's. If that's not hitting the poon lottery, I don't know what is.

When he played, I think his salary was like $350 per week. Joe had his balls cut off by Susie Kolber.

That was the only reason why they had pre-season games, so they could get back in shape for the real season.
