re: Is it wrong for a private school to brag about higher testing scores? (Twitter battle)

What is the point of private schools if not to generate better scores like this? Not sure why the public school guy is butt hurt here.
But do they? Studies suggest the gap is eliminated when you account for socioeconomic factors.
I think an argument can be made for controlling the environment a little better, but I don't put much stock into the academic prowess being attributable to the school

So Lexus should state this in every commercial or they are insensitive to the people who can't afford a Lexus? That is fricking stupid and you know it.
Not at all. FWIW, I clarified further in my next comment. Should have probably done so the first time around.

The guy complaining is an attention seeking disingenuous douchebag for pointing it out. Plain and simple. It was a simple way to show the value of investing more than most on your kids' education. Person who posted it was doing the school a solid until someone had to make it as if the kids and parents at CHS have anything at all to do with the trash that goes to other schools.
I haven't seen the original tweet so I don't know what context was provided, if any. Even if I agree with the Zachary coach's sentiment, the forum was a poor choice. However, my point was the correlation vs causation conversation is an important one to consider when measuring private schools.

Nothing wrong with competition.

Embarrassing for the Zachary guy

Sucess is frowned upon in Louisiana.

Those dumb kid schools would brag if they scored at the national average.

Josh smith’s response said it best. Jimbo needs to stay in his lane. Uncalled for and unprofessional

Zachary guy comes off as butthurt. I see no problem with Catholic bragging about their scores. It's a good school and this is just a form of advertising that.

Stats show that the public schools actually have the most improvement on test scores.
The private school kids dont see as much of an increase. But they are already in a group that tests well. White males with two parent households.

This is a nothing more than a sales tool meant to justify the massive tuition cost. There should be a truth in advertising disclaimer though.
The public school guy should show their average ACT vs investment. That would make for a great stat.

he compared CHS to the entire state as a whole, which includes other private schools
Uhhhh .... I think he is comparing to public schools since most privates don’t release that info

Catholic has every right to be proud of their stats, but to compare them to any public school is about as "apples to oranges" as it gets. Zachary coach is right...the public schools have plenty of kids that are going to score low on the ACT that Catholic wouldn't ever come close to admitting to their school.
Kind of like Baton Rouge High, Lee High (both magnets), and University High?

What an a-hole move by Gabe...to be proud of the students he teaches and coaches for their academic success.

Seems to me the coach at Catholic is bragging

Good. Louisiana should stop being a bucket of crabs and try to improve themselves rather than shitting on the ones succeeding. If that hurts your feelings, too bad.

Zachary coach comes off petty.
Nothing wrong with Fertita posting what is essentially an ad for CHS on his twitter account.

Damn, this Catholic High ACT scandal is getting posters to come out of the woodwork here
Posted on 2/3/20 at 4:25 pm to RadarTiger
Since they live or die of off tuition it's ok. It'd be far more interesting to see the ACT scores vs the best public option in the area.

You can see ACT score by Parish here LINK

In the eight years post college that I lived and worked in BR, I heard far more Zachary parents bragging about ACT scores than Catholic parents. Catholic parents tend to shy away from bringing such stats up because they know public school parents will more often than not will cast them off as smug.
