Is it time to consider a moving of American Thanksgiving?

Looking at our holiday schedule, and half of my company holidays fall in the 5 week stretch between Thanksgiving and New Years.
I'm curious as to why we are locked in to the year end corporate shutdown mode.
To spread things out a little better, it seems like mid-to-late August would make good sense. Perhaps be the final holiday before school goes back into session. Kids can still get a fall break. They just wont get off for a week, go back for three weeks and then get two more weeks off.
I fully expect more banging and comments of shame than owlie and oweo behind the dumpster at the roller rink, but I am hopeful.

I want to move it, but not to August.
I want to move it up in November. It would extend Christmas season, so everything isn't crammed into 3-4 weeks.
2nd Thursday in November. That way there is still 1-2 weeks between Halloween and Thanksgiving. There are still pumpkins and football and cooler weather.

Don't worry about it. Thanksgiving as we know it has only another generation or so to go before it is eradicated or radically changed into a Progressive Holiday of some sort.
