Is it rude or ignorance for a cashier to not count back change to a customer?

Consider your age and life experience before you bring your hate.

Before the time when every student brought a calculator to class to do simple math, cashiers / vendors in general when presented with more cash than goods cost, would count back the change given to a customer. This was not expected from the cashier, it was the norm. I understand many people can’t do the math but the tigerdroppings readers generally can.

Should we expect more from vendors or just do the math ourselves?

Snarky comments welcome

I don’t blame them. Most of them can’t count anyway and I have to check regardless.

OP shits on people for not doing simple math, then complains that a minimum wage employee isn't verbally announcing their simple math calculation because OP doesn't want to do said simple math calculation on their own.

Checks out.

I don’t understand. Are you saying they just guess and give you change? That they don’t give change at all because they don’t want to count it? That they make you calculate the change? What?

I dunno. I was at the car detail earlier, asked the cashier if she could break a hundred, she said yes. It went downhill from there, quickly. Once I had her on edge from not returning my proper change. I asked her to break a 20, with (4) fives. I ended up with (1) ten and (12) singles.

I will not. Leave the high school girl in the checkout line alone, boomer.

Pat a $9.25 tab with a ten dollar bill, don’t expect them to count out the 3 quarters, pay $19.25 with a hundred dollar bill, and I appreciate them counting out four twenties. I’ve found that southeast Asian owned gas station are better at change/math than your local circle K franchise with the quality of workers that affords

It might make our immigration numbers better if we substitute the historical questions with arithmetic questions.

I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a customer pull the “you gave me the wrong change” stunt when my BS detector goes off. I mean as another customer, I never worked as a cashier.

The best is still the blank stare you get if you add coins or other small denomination bills to make the change easier for them with needing fewer notes.

Probably ignorance.

Stopped the other morning to get a coffee at a gas station with an old school quarter-only car wash. Decided to spray truck, bike, and trailer off after a deer hunt so I went back in with a 10 and a 1 dollar bill. Told her give me back 8 quarters. She gave me 8 quarters, a 5, and two 1 dollar bills. She was dumbfounded when I told her she needed to give me two more dollars.

You should probably be glad they gave you correct change.

In all seriousness, I don’t care if they count it back to me. But I’m going to count it before I walk away to make sure it’s correct if they don’t.

Absolutely.

God forbid you mess up what they’ve already keyed into the register.
