Woke up this morning and could not extend my right leg. I can bend it inward just fine but standing up and walking is a bitch. Feels like I hyperextended it but I don’t remember doing anything to it.

Short answer, yes.

If you may have already had an unknown issue (slight ligament strain) and you slept with your leg in a position to put maximum stress of that ligament, you could definitely make it worse to where it becomes apparent.

When you're >40 it's possible to hurt anything while you're sleeping.

You may have answered your own question. In some instances, getting older can suck. You may have some kind of "itis" which means inflammation.

Oddly had the same thing happen yesterday after driving for an hour. Went to get out my vehicle and damn near buckled. Feel fine this am.

Probably just another great side affect of getting older.

Yes. Had same thing happen to me last week.
Took 3 full days for my leg to feel better. Called getting old.

Have a torn meniscus right now from sleeping. Doctor believes it was already partially torn and I tore the rest while sleeping. Just woke up and couldn't lift my foot off the ground.

I woke up a couple weeks ago with my left patellar tendon literally throbbing, could palpate the tendon and feel the pulsing. It got so painful and annoying I took a 7.5 mg hydrocodone and that only dulled the pain, did not eliminate it. Finally about 4-5pm (almost 12 hours later) it stopped and hasn’t been a problem since.

I have experienced that hopefully it loosens up in a day or two. I've had ligament strain in both knees and one knee scoped and a torn meniscus so I never know what I'm going to have when I get up in the morning.

Thanks for all the replies. I gather from the majority of the comments that the answers are yes and getting old sucks Hopefully it works itself out by tomorrow before I go back to work.

Had a similar experience years ago. Turned out to be gout.

Any remedies for this? I put some biofreeze on it to try and loosen it up. Should I try and walk it off or rest it?

Yes. I once sprained my ankle while sleeping- had it twisted by hotel sheets that were too tight ??. Welcome to middle-age

I call it “injured while sleeping” because it’s happened to me several times. Getting old sucks.

Wake up and step out of bed and my ankle is hurting, or my knee, or my neck, or my shoulder, or my back.
