Is it possible to get my copay back if I leave the doctor’s office?

Update from this thread yesterday.
Been here for over an hour and still sitting in the main waiting room. Asked for an update on the wait time and they would only say the doctor would see me shortly. They took my money as soon as I walked in. Not sure how much longer I’m going to just sit here considering my appointment was for 930am.
If I leave, should I expect my money back?

Ask the people at the desk

I want to do my research before they give me some run around answer. Google isn’t providing much.

They'll usually forward that to the next visit. Just tell them you have to leave for work/family/etc and can that apply to the next visit.

You are already there, just go ask them what the deal is.
It's Friday though, enjoy a damn highlights magazine and deal with it.

Call the billing department. That's how I got a copay back for a Dr.'s appointment that wasn't necessary

They’ll likely give you some BS excuse as to why you won’t get it back.
“Sorry, sir. But being that you were here, we turned away other customers, so we can’t refund you”. Screw them

95% of the time yes.
The other 5% of the time a practice will attempt to apply their no-show/cancellation policy to you, where the fine is usually something close to your co-pay. It's a dick move, and I would never do it. I don't think most other offices would either if the doc is truly running behind.
But if you just ran your card, it's a 2 minute process to refund or reverse the transaction.
Your co-pay is assumed to be part of your billed E&M code. If there was no visit, there was no Evaluation or management. Thus an unbillable encounter, and you should get your co-pay back.

You sure ask a lot of “how do I act like an adult?” questions

I feel your pain, but it's pretty much the norm at most doctor offices now. They overbook to make more money and the doctor rushes out minutes after he steps in with you. If he's that fast, he can't be thorough, right?
Their attitude is our time isn't worth anything but for them time is money!

Just demand your refund..if you paid with card, dispute the transaction with your card carrier. It costs them and extra $10 for a reversal of disouted.
You'll be amazed at how quick you get in!
And dont be a pussy, tell them that 930 means 930! And not to schedule you again if they dont expect to be able to see you in time.
Be prepared, they will try to make you feel bad with some kind of "the doctor got pulled away for an emergency"
Its bullshite. He went drinking last night and got there an hour late

I'd refund your money, tell you to enjoy your day, and offer you good luck in getting another appt in the next 3 months. All with a smile.

This worked.
I said I was leaving because I expected my appointment time to be accurate and they weren’t giving me any updates on why it was taking so long and when I was going to be called. Before I even got to demanding my money back, they said they would go ahead and take me back to get my blood work and urine sample done. Said the doctor would be in around 11.
I doubt the doctor comes in then but at least they called me back. Though the doc could just keep me hanging all day and now they’ve actually done medical stuff which warrants the copay.
