Tell them you have a meeting at 11:15, and need to go. Just tell them to give you your copay back, and you'll pay it next time. If they don't, just say you'll dispute it with the CC company.
I'm not sure how doctors are consistently late for first and second appointments, but they manage to do it regularly. The only way to add 1hr+ to one of your first appointments is to be working at the hospital, or to show up 1hr+ late.
Just be glad your appointment wasn't for 4

This simply isn't true.

This your first time going to a doctor?
Yes. That’s what the link in the OP is about.

No, it's not. But it's an easy, mindless narrative for people to latch onto. And there aren't many other industries where consumers are clueless as to how the system actually works. That's not really their fault though (for the most part). Our system is ridiculous.

Been here for over an hour and still sitting in the main waiting room. Asked for an update on the wait time and they would only say the doctor would see me shortly. They took my money as soon as I walked in. Not sure how much longer I’m going to just sit here considering my appointment was for 930am.
Not a huge fan of lawsuits, but a class action against doctors for lost wages of time wasted on waiting several hours for an appointment would go a LONG way to elevate this issue. They overbook because of cancellations. I get it, but airlines and hotels do the same thing and when they are called on it (everyone showing up) they give credits or pay for rooms at other hotels.
Doctors just give the middle finger and tell you their time is way more valuable than yours. They are smart, so I get it that they justify 500-1000$ per hour for their work. I genuinely don’t have any issue with that. But us average Joes need our 17$ per hour WAY more than they need their 500-1000$ per hour. We are trying to pay rent, alimony, child support. They are paying for third vacation homes. I am not bitter about them making tons of money. God bless, they worked super hard to get where they are and deserve every cent. It’s just such a huge level of disrespect to make someone wait for over an hour for an appointment that was scheduled, but when that person shows up an hour late they reschedule you for a later date..

Then why do I have to waste infinitely more hours in a waiting room for a booked doctors appointment than I do at the dentist or even a car repair shop?

No argument here - the system could be better. It's funny how these threads never acknowledge the other side. Clinic delays are very often patient related - with late arrivals being the most common. I've even had people show up a half hour early and then complain because I saw them right at their scheduled appointment time.

Then I guess you will have to include the 4 long winded patients that came before you as defendants with the doctor. Or every singular issue patient that arrives with high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes and wants to talk about them. And the patients who can't produce a referral, but want the front office to spend 20 minutes trying to obtain it for them. Or the patients who can't produce past records, but want the MA to spend 20 minutes tracking down the PCP to get them. And of course the late patients. And the patients that provide invalid insurance info prior to arrival. Or the insurance companies who authorize 3 visits on the referral instead of the 12 months requested by the PCP. And the insurance companies that require PA's prior to in office procedures.
Gonna be lots of defendants in that suit...

Tough shite guy.
I ain't getting out of this chair until I've perused all threads of interest to me on at least the first page of the OT.
Plus I prefer to dole out free advice to jabronis on this board rather than talk to you patients with you're incessant bitching and whining.

Makes his own prices, so can fill a schedule with less volume to remain profitable. Significantly less regulation, and significantly less demand.

B/c you, and all the patients in front of you, aren't fricking cars! If you schedule an appt with a mechanic for a brake job, and you tow your car in lacking a transmission, don't you think that might delay the appts after you if the mechanic agrees to fix it?

Bad analogy is bad analogy. The mechanic would have them schedule the trans work at another time if he were already booked. Been there, seent it happen.

So they booked a 930 appt for the doc who wasn’t even going to be in until 11.

Yes. They cannot bill you for something they did not perform. If the co pay is for dr visit and that’s what they charge insurance, call insurance and tell them what happened and that you never saw dr. Then tell them to make a three way call to dr office and tell them insurance is aware of situation and fraudulent billing and you expect refund of amount paid.
If all else fails (which it shouldn’t) if you paid with credit card, simply dispute charge with credit card.

Because you have a shitty doctor. I never (ok, seldom) wait more than 15 minutes

Did you get your oxy or not?

Well now, let's think this through. Could it be his doctor is overbooked because he is very good with a good mannerism, and your's isn't any good and has cold hands and long fingers?

Call the billing department. That's how I got a copay back for a Dr.'s appointment that wasn't necessary
Wasn't necessary? How was that determined?

They open at 9?
How does a PCP get over an hour behind schedule for an appointment 30 minutes after opening time?
Is he hung over or just late for work?
