Dude, no one has that I know
Trump said yesterday he took it for 14 days consecutively. Come on

It suppresses your immune system. I would recommend discussing with a Healthcare professional before taking any medication.
It isn’t a true immunosuppressant. It modulates the immune response. Which is why it works when given early. And it’s a very safe drug.

Doctors are never wrong? There are doctors that say masks work. There are doctors that say masks don't work. Hell, there's even doctors who once said they didn't work who now say they do work, but won't wear it!! Somebody's wrong. So yeah, if I've read up on what doctors are saying it works, and I believe it won't hurt me (it's been used since the 60s), then I want it if I have underlying conditions and fear for my life.
There are studies proving it has no benefit in the treatment of covid.
Also, you, as the patient, don’t get to tell the doctor what to prescribe. Good doctors are not writing scripts for hcq.

I know several doctors and none of them prescribe medicine for any viral infections because they are doctors and know better. Now if your virus has caused other issues that lead to symptoms that can be treated that is a different story. But no doctor is prescribing it to cure COVID. Not even the fake doctors on social media.

Quite the leap from “I know several doctors” to stating NO doctors are prescribing it. There are successful trials on record for its use.

But if a patient firmly requests it over the newer and highly expensive drugs that are now on the market, your doc should do what his patient requests.
A physician's primary responsibility is to provide what he/she feels is the best care.
Why even go to the doctor if you think you know what's best? Just get the drug from Mexico or wherever.

This is dumbassery at it's finest.
Doctor: "You shouldn't take this drug."
Patient: "I request it."
Doctor: "Sorry, I won't prescribe it."
Patient: "But I FIRMLY request it."
Doctor: "Oh. Ok then. Here you go."

That happens way more than you know. Medicine is becoming a hospitality customer is always right based service.

I never said it didn't happen. But I FIRMLY think it shouldn't happen. The poster I responded to said he believes it should be that way.
Patient: "Hey doc, I stay up drinking until 1 am every morning and then find myself not being able to focus at work the next day. I request adderall."
Doctor: "How about not drinking until 1am and seeing how that works?"
Patient: "No doc, I firmly request adderall."
Doctor: "Ok here you go."

Not true. There are studies showing its effectiveness if used early.
Ah, yes. One flawed study says it works. Let’s give it to everyone then.
quote:
But the Henry Ford study has been sharply criticized by scientists who said it shouldn’t be used to change policy. It was an observational study, considered much less rigorous than a randomized trial, in which patients are randomly assigned to receive a treatment or not. And its results fly in the face of three major randomized trials that have found hydroxycloroquine is not effective in treating or preventing covid-19.
Critics also noted that twice as many of the Henry Ford patients who received hydroxychloroquine also got a steroid — which has been shown to benefit covid-19 patients — compared with those who didn’t get hydroxychloroquine. That made it hard to know which drug benefited the patients, they said. The authors made statistical adjustments to account for that, but other scientists said the methodology wasn’t clear and that it is very hard to correct studies in that way.

Edit: and LOL at linking an article from the AAPS. C’mon man...

No, but I have taken it for 8 years with zero side effects. And it’s been used safely for decades. I just think it’s ridiculous that a drug that could potentially help people is being suppressed for purely political reasons.

How are you getting it (Dr prescribed?) and why are you taking it?
Posted on 7/29/20 at 4:30 pm to Nonc Chu Rouge
Dr. prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis. It’s a first-line treatment for RA and Lupus and widely prescribed by rheumatologists.

It’s not being suppressed for political reasons. It’s being suppressed bc it has no proven effectiveness on Covid.
If the government unleashes the floodgates on it, then it’ll lead to idiots hoarding it which means people like you who actually need it for other ailments will have a harder time getting it and it’ll cost more.
It also does have side effects. Just because you haven’t had any doesn’t mean no one else will.

Why are you so hung up on getting a drug that has no proof of working
Because I think it works against Covid and want to be prepared if I get the virus. There's more than enough studies out that says it works.
Also I've been doing research and a lot of the countries that seemed like Covid should of been a lot worse (India, Sub-saharan African, ect...) have fared way better than here in the US. Those countries have a history of using HCQ for Malaria and their death and infection rates with Covid are way lower than what we're seeing here in the US.

I don’t disagree, except that there ARE studies supporting it. The positive ones are dismissed (or not covered by the media) as quickly as they are published because it is definitely political. If Trump had not mentioned it, it would be a different story. Just my opinion. I’ve been following it closely because the concern you stated regarding availability are valid.
And there’s not a drug out there that doesn’t have side effects for some. This happens to be one that is tolerated well by the majority.
Selfishly, I hope there’s not a run on the drug. That being said, if it works for people, it should be available to them.
Personally, I feel that the fact that it’s cheap plays a role in it. There’s a reason Bill Gates has led the campaign against it.
This one will likely disappear soon:

No there are not.

Ah, so which journal are you published in?

I haven’t kept tabs on Africa, but India definitely got hit by Covid. Europe and Asia are faring much better than we are now without the use of HCQ, so what’s the explanation for that?
HCQ is not effective for the treatment of Covid. It’s proven. No doctor is going to write you a script for it. I can’t believe people are this dense.
