What is the bottom line then?

As mentioned 10+ times in this thread:
- The gold standard by which all drugs are tested (randomized controlledl trials) show that HCQ has no benefit for covid.
- Because of the above, HCQ cannot be prescribed to treat Covid and doctors are not prescribing it.
- There is no conspiracy with limiting HCQ
- People with RA and lupus rely on HCQ daily so we don’t need doomsday preppers hoarding it
- Covid survival rate with no drugs is 90+%, no one needs HCQ “just in case”. That’s asinine.

HCQ has proven to not been effective in curing Covid patients, but they're about to start a pretty large scale study to see if it can work as a prophylactic. They're enlisting like 10-20,000 healthcare workers in a trial to see if it is effective in preventing infections.

If it turns out to work for this, thousands of morons will accuse doctors and Fauci of flip flopping because they don't understand the scientific method.

It’s mind boggling to see (assumed) pro-vax people use anti-vaxxer arguments in defense of a drug that so far is clinically unproven. Stupidity truly knows no bounds.

A lot of the people who would have made fun of anti-vax facebook moms have become what they always made fun of. They're even claiming there's no chance they take the covid vaccine when it's available.

Not saying your wrong, but how would a new vaccine for a new virus be a loss for any company? Just the discovery alone would send that companies stock through the roof.

I believe some of those clinical trials were later found to be flawed ie. HCQ administered when the patient was too far gone.
There have been trials that found HCQ to be effective and what about all the Docs who have used HCQ successfully? Are they lying? I do not understand the controversy. If I got Covid I would not want to be prohibited from receiving this drug by anyone other than my very own doctor.

Politics have no role in medicine. If it works, use it. If it doesn't, scrap it.

I am all for studying all potential therapies regardless of which controversial person endorses it.

It’s unfortunate that many people are anti-HCQ. The passionate fight against a drug that has been used safely for 60 years is puzzling.

Thanks Kat! My thoughts exactly. I don't understand the fight against it either.

I'm not sure why I'm being attacked in this thread. One person called me ignorant and another asked me to kill myself all because I asked how hard was it lately to get HCQ.

Why are people fighting so hard against a safe drug that's been around for 60 years and has been used by millions of people? There's a lot of smoke around this drug and Covid-19 and I'm curious about it.

Doctors can't prescribe medicine just because someone has a hunch that it may work. Even if it is deemed safe, there are still side effects. If there is no actual proof that the medication works to combat Covid, all you're doing is prescribing potential side effects.

But it's not just SOMEONE saying it works...It's actual doctors saying that it works and medical studies.

medical studies.

Has there been any randomized controlled trial (RCT) that shows efficacy? A retrospective study is the lowest form of evidence. There's no control group - think placebo - to test the effectiveness of the drug.

Anecdotal evidence is going to be used right at the beginning of a pandemic because you haven't had time to test things, so yes a lot of doctors prescribed HCQ, but as results from RCTs started coming in, doctors stopped prescribing it because there is no discernible difference between a patient who takes HCQ or who doesn't. In that case you might as well be prescribing sugar pills.

There isn’t a physician in the US that ever claimed it was a cure. It’s use is intended to lessen the severity of symptoms & significantly reduce recovery duration. Every physician that is pro HCQ has been adamant that it should be administered as soon as a positive test or symptoms are revealed, not when hospitalization is required. The world-wide clinical study of 30,000 medical personnel you mention started May 20th & is being conducted by Washington U(STL) and so far, I can only speak for local info, no doctors & nurses in STL who are in the study have contracted Covid. Another poster stated it isn’t prescribed to patients and that’s a bald-faced lie. It’s being prescribed all across the country depending upon your healthcare system’s course of treatment. I sell to the healthcare industry & one of my best friend’s is a physician in the local ER trauma unit. Our university healthcare system has been prescribing HCQ + 5 day Zpack as standard treatment from day 1 and have had moderate success. Is it a cure, not even close, but it definitely has shown to do what it was intended to. As my buddy has stated, we decided to be proactive from the start and as physicians we couldn’t send patients fearing for their lives home with a treatment option of take some Tylenol, drink plenty of fluids, & get some rest in good conscience.

I didn't know Washington Uni was doing their study. I'd like to see some results. I'm really hopeful that results will show that it's an effective prophylactic. Would give a lot of doctors, nurses, first responders, and teachers peace of mind.

Nah, but perhaps a little orange around the lips.

You’d probably do better by laying on a tanning bed and getting a lysol injection.

tell that to the poli-board.

apparently there was a big bru-ha-ha on the capitol steps yesterday or something with a bunch of "doctors" telling the truth.

don't search for it on the interwebs. apparently it keeps getting taken down because of "censorship".

oh yeah: one of the doctors says to stay away from demons if you want to avoid an STD.

I need to listen to the podcast again, but iirc it was something on the lines of with most vaccines, drug companies pour money into r&d to get a vaccine ready as soon as possible - but even at the quickest this is usually a year or longer process. By the time the vaccine is ready, the virus in question has run its course or alternative treatments emerge to keep it in check so demand for the new vaccine drops significantly. Then they’re left with a giant supply of a vaccine that no one wants to buy and most of it goes into storage.

Our recommended treatment pathway for CoVid+ admissions, includes starting HCQ immediately. As far as I know, virtually all of our patients have been put on it. We are including Remdesyvir, now, as well.

I asked our pulmonologist how do we know if it works. He said, "If they live... it worked."

HCQ will not help you. Move along.

How do you know? Where do you get your expertise?

We use it routinely in our institution, and we successfully got several off the vent this week, and discharged another dozen or so.

The pulmonologist that leads our CoVid response and our director of pharmacy have been big proponents from the start. Nearly every patient is on it.
