If they were, Sonic would let you tip via card.

* When I worked there in 2006, you actually could tip on the card. They had just added the card slot to the speakers and they never worked.. so we usually had to take the card inside and run it. From in there, a tip could be added after they signed their receipt if they wrote a tip on it.

But yes, now there is no way to tip on a card. This is why I don't think it's a big deal and I highly doubt the carhops expect it. Most people don't carry cash.

I didn't find this all that funny.

I meant fun. But I guess it isn't fun either. Moreso interesting because you'd think tipping capability would be something that came with time (just due to our tipping culture), rather than something that disappeared with time.

There is a least one tip thread a day. Someone needs to just sticky a topic on the money board and be done with it.

Why wouldn't you ? They bring out your food the same as any waiter in a restaurant.

Let’s not get carried away. They don’t wait on me. They just deliver food.

Do you tip your UPS/FedEx driver for getting out of his vehicle to deliver your packages to your front door?

I tip 1-2 dollars max, not really based on the order amount like you would elsewhere

To all of the people using the card excuse, its hard to believe that none of you have any cash whatsoever on you.

I'm all-in on using credit cards everywhere I go, but I always have some cash on me for incidentals, tolls, etc.

I think its a lame excuse most of the time.

You sound like a royal cheapskate. It's not a trick but standard practice for people who work on tips. Unlike you, most people aren't interested in having a minimum-wage worker sit there and count their coins back to them.

This is such a ridiculous reach.

So if you have a couple $20s you'll give them them one and say give me $19 back?

We’re supposed to believe that you never eat fast food?

And sonic isn’t shitty.

Sure let me tip them $20.

Most of us live in the first world where tolls are electronic so we don’t have singles. And incidentals? Like when you go to the one place in town that doesn’t take cards?

I had Canes traveling Sunday, before that the last time I had fast food has been at least 6 months. Actually, I ate Canes while working at a client site in December, but I can't think of a time since then that I had before Sunday.

To be honest, this simple debate sometimes keeps me from picking Sonic. I don't want to feel obligated to tip at a fast food restaurant.
