It's not a rush delivery. This store is pretty much sold out of all their inventory so it seems like they would be making a bulk order to restock.

It's really not that big a deal, just seemed odd. I'm over it. I'm getting the bike for the same price I would've paid if I ordered it off the manufacturer's site, and it's coming assembled so I'm cool with it.

Fair, don't worry too much about it. Shipping is a lot right now anyway with everything going on.

At least ask and see what they say and like I said, ask for a free 3 month tune up.

Granted, they had to order it cause they're sold out of pretty much their entire stock, but I still feel like I'm getting ripped off here. Is this common practice?

How could you be ripped off if you know that they are charging you for shipping, and you agree to it?

This sounds like BS. I've never had a bike shop charge separately for shipping unless I wanted it delivered asap.

Bikes cost about $100 to ship, maybe there's a surcharge now with UPS since everyone is ordering online. Maybe your shop just nickel and dimes you like a car or motorcycle shop.

Typically it's all just rolled into the price. They didn't try to charge you for nitrogen in the tires did they?

My wife ordered it earlier today. She's really good about finding ways to overpay for things. She would've agreed to pay for nitrogen in the tires if they would've slapped that on as well

I bought a bike from capitol cyclery in BR last year. I was charged shipping because it’s not a bike that they keep in stock. It was worth it because it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

Why are you going through a bike shop at all?

Because the vast majority of people have no idea how to assemble and tune up a bike properly. They may think they do but they don't.

If I'm not mistaken, bike shops that carry name brands (Specialized/Trek/Cervelo/Giant/etc.) make big orders with each new model year. Once they are out of stock, then it's more expensive to re-stock before the next bulk order. So ordering an individual bike is always hard to get a deal. I've never been charged more, but when I've been quoted at a shop that always offered me huge discounts ($1000+), I get no break on anything that's not in stock.

You weren't ripped off.

Many times they will do large orders that are given reduced shipping and often come freight line. When they have to order piece meal they come Fedex or UPS and it's expensive. Bring that bike in box to UPS and I bet is costs more than $50

Is someone who isn’t you supposed to pay for the shipping costs of your wife’s bike to be delivered to your home?

Or would it feel more reasonable if the bike was more expensive, but with free shipping?

The bike shop has to make a profit somewhere.

Yeah... distributors/manufacturers don’t incur or charge freight charges to ship anything that stores stock. The truck drivers and freight carriers just do it all for free.

Some of you people seriously just don’t know how the world works. I mean, like are clueless as a new born babe.

You always pay the shipping whether it is itemized or not, did you think it is just a gift?

You come out a lot better if they itemize freight as an additional line item than you do if they apply the freight to the cost and then apply their markup on top of that. You are clearly not paying a marked up freight charge.

Well, the exact same bike was $50 cheaper before they ran out of stock.... and what do you mean "you people?"
