Is it appropriate to do a "Stock the Bar Party" each time you buy a new house?

Some people say yes, absolutely.

However, I didn't feel comfortable doing a stock-the-bar party the first home we bought. We didn't do a STBP when we purchased our second home. We just purchased our third home and one of our friends mentioned it in passing. I don't know.

That being said, the first (and only) STBP that we planned was a huge success and accomplished the job.

I mean its basically just you having a party and people like to bring things to not seem like a mooch. Having a stock the bar party keeps it simple rather than a regular house warming where people have no idea what to get.

I think one is enough. If you are moving from one house to another, it is understood you already own the things you need and are just moving them. Why should people buy you a bunch of a liquor? If you didn't have liquor in your house before then I would assume you didn't want it for whatever reason.

I went to a stock the bar party last weekend, only I didn't know it was a stock the bar party, so I drank the booze I brought.

I'm picky about my booze, so I don't trust people to stock a bar for me.

Last time I went to a stock the bat party. The home owner got roughly 25 bottles of fireball

I think for you first home its acceptable
. After that, buy your own alcohol

If I were ever invited to a stock the bar party I would bring a half-barrel keg of Bud Light Lime.

Ridiculous. Have a housewarming party, invite your friends, and provide booze. Cheapo.

If by House you mean the kind on wheels, then yes, upgrading your trailer is a life milestone moment....

Exactly! That's why I wasn't super comfortable hosting the 1st one.

However, we're being asked to host one and who am I to decline free alcohol to stock the new bar.

The difference is that in the new house we have 3 wet bars versus one. Obviously one bar is already stocked from our previous alcohol supply, but we have two other bars that need to be stocked.

I doubt I ever have a house warming party, stock the bar party, anything. I don't need the items or attention.

I hate it when people buy me things, so I'll never have a STBP.

But when we bought our house, we had everyone over, and if they brought something, great, if not, that was great too

No, buy your own liquor. Do you have a fill the tank party every time you buy a car?

with an "old money crowd" it would be understood to bring a gift to the house

you wouldn't have to have a cheesy "stock the bar party"
