so the s.o. and I have friends that are married and their kid's birthday is December 24th. starting this year they are having "semi-annual" birthday parties for him (he's 1) because they don't like the fact that he gets "cheated" on getting birthday presents being so close to xmas. so now they expect us and everyone else to go to this stupid arse birthday party in June. just ridiculous.

Would you want your kid to not have a birthday party with friends?
My son's birthday is Christmas Eve, too. Why shouldn't we move the date?

I would be more annoyed at the expectation I'd go to some kids birthday party around Christmas, so this doesn't bother me.
Of all the gender reveal and _ayden related drama in the world, this ranks pretty low for me.

Don't go if it bothers you

If they are just going to move the date of the celebration, I don't see it as a big deal. If it bothers you, don't go.

Our sons is less than a week before Christmas and my wife mentioned something of that nature for his party in the summer when he's a little older. It seems like a fairly good idea to me
Invite all the kids in the summer for the party and just have a little immediate family thing on his real birthday

No, NoHo. It's perfectly reasonable to hold birthday parties on Christmas Eve when most families go out of town or would rather stay home with loved ones.

So if they are concerned about him getting "cheated" on his birthday, why don't they just double up on the presents and save the trouble of having a half-birthday party? It's not like they aren't spoiling him either, so it shouldn't be an issue. Dumb shite.

I mean it's not the kids fault.

Had a party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my conception long ago. Had one cake shaped like an ovum and another shaped like a sperm cell. You could have his and be 9 months before Christmas--he will appreciate the details later.

When they're young, ages 1 to 3, it's not much of a big deal. But as they age, they want to see their friends. That's what the party is all about, really. Feeling loved.

They should have planned the impregnation better.

My youngest is Dec. 27. We don't have a separate party. I'm less than a week before Christmas. No separate party in June.
It is ridiculous, but what are you going to do? Not go? That is up to you. But it sounds like a good reason to get together with your friends and enjoy yourselves.

we don't have kids. they had his birthday party the week before xmas this year and a bunch of people went. and they'll have another one next year, so basically we have to go celebrate his bday twice and get him presents twice. I have no problem getting the kid a present both times, its just the reason they are doing it that has me confused.

We moved it to the beginning of December, but who cares when you have it? It's a birthday party.
