Politics aside, is having a Whole Foods a sign of symbol that you’re in a halfway decent, affluent city?
I know you are getting a lot of down votes but you are correct.
Whole Foods, like most companies, do research to locate in desirable neighborhoods.
Whole Foods does open in poor neighborhoods but that is more of a PR move because they are run by goofy liberals and it makes them feel good.

Usually means you're in an area of upper middle class soyboys. You know, the type who sits on their macbook in starbucks cursing the big bad world, despite having a rather privileged upbringing themselves.

More of a measure of if your city has hot young college students in it. Whole Foods has premiere retail talent.

They do a very thorough demographic study before opening a location and it involves profiles on household income which I think needs to be north of 150,000/year

I sid like a store in California called Bristol Farms. Great meat, king crab legs, scallops, etc.
Now I think the closest Whole Foods is over an hour away and it's nothing but weird hipster stuff. I butcher my own beef anyway and age it how I want.

It’s less about affluence as it is a market that values what WF offers.

No, it just means you have the population to support one.
