it's not 2009. jobs are plentiful and it's easy to find one that pays more than $15/hour, especially in houston. that's the entire point

The Unemployment Figures in Detail
The total number of unemployed in April 2022 is down 428,000 from February 2022. The number of long-term unemployed (those searching for jobs for 27 weeks or more) decreased to 1.5 million.6

The real unemployment rate was 7% in April, 0.1 percentage points higher than in March. This alternate measure of unemployment, known as U-6, gives a broader definition of unemployment. It includes people who would like to find a job but haven't looked for one in the past month. It also includes those who are underemployed and marginally attached.7

The real unemployment rate in April 2022 includes 456,000 discouraged workers, increasing from 373,000 in March 2022, and down from 562,000 a year ago.6 Discouraged workers are people who have given up looking for work but would take a job if offered. They are not counted in the unemployment rate, because they haven't looked for a job in the past four weeks.

where are they? i'll gladly tell them.

are you really going with this? everyone knows that everyone is hiring.

95 full time, 17.5+/hour, entry level, high school diploma jobs within 15 miles of houston. many are urgently hiring.

I like how the people arguing that 15/hr wage is livable are ones suggesting living in homeless shelters or not having air conditioning in southern texas.

No one is actually doing that ITT.

Absolutely. I suck at math, but evidently at least know 15 is more than 0.

You're welcome.

You know those people in the link I posted above? They aren't taking $17.50 either

Come on down and visit the mouse. Then take a stroll down 192 and look in the motels of the people who just handed you a turkey leg.

But hey you’re right, $15 hour is definitely livable. They probably just aren’t pulling themselves up from their bootstraps enough.

It can be. But still don’t think it is in Houston, which is what this thread is suppose to be about.

If you have no skills and/or education, you don't have many choices. If only there were ways of fixing that.
