Exactly

Negative.

In fact, it's gotten bad enough now that local sheriffs that want to bust someone but don't have enough evidence for a warrant will get the DNR out there on trumped up poaching allegations an lo and behold there's a meth lab. It's absolutely 4th amendment violation but I don't know what the middle ground is.

Watching the game warden shows in ME and TX (and I'm sure the are scripted and "played up") makes me thank God for the scant LE in MS.

EF Hutton is a former green jeans who likes to try to police the entire outdoor community. So tiring.

Yes, that was the fear back in 94, and HQ specifically called a meeting to address that. You are very informed to know this.

The cow pond thing, you don’t need a lic to fish private pond.

I've seen people get their fishing licenses checked at a pond in the middle of a cow pasture

Yep, I don't know if this guy is just BSing, but if you're on private property fishing in your own pond, they have no right to ask.

My favorite is when they stop and shake down some poor soul on the side of the road just trying to catch a couple bream….most likely for dinner. Doing no harm.

My dad got disgusted at a game warden fussing at some kids who were innocently bank fishing in bayou segnette a few years ago. The warden was really being an a-hole towards them. Because they had no license or some horrible discretion. These were kids fishing (early teens or younger) and that is an activity that should be encouraged.

There’s just got to be some way to enforce the law, educating kids on the law, and not be an a-hole about it.

False.

They have every right to march right up to you and ask, and you can tell them you don't have a fishing license, and there's nothing they can do because you don't need one on private property in a private pond. But they can go anywhere they damn well please and ask anyone anything they damn well please. Maybe we're splitting hairs here.

One thing about the McHugh decision, it only went as far as the State supreme court. McHugh quit after that.

The next guy could take it to the scotus. Although i think it would stand.

This is my biggest problem with them besides they always seem to be assholes. How are they allowed to just go and check your fridge and freezer for limits just because ? Or come on your private property with no reason. Like no warrant or he seen something or heard a shot after or before shooting hours. Just because they feel like it.

Yes because government has jurisdiction over natural game, if it is not domesticated animal then technically quasi governmental property. Don’t necessarily agree with it but this is why you pay the state damages in addition to fines if you shoot deer illegally out of season. This is why their ability when enforcing game laws are much more than enforcing non wildlife laws, where they are basically just normal cops.

None of it matters

You don’t have the resources or power to fight it and if you do decide that you know something they don’t, you are just gonna go to jail
