Is evolution still happening?

My youngest daughter is doing research and a paper on it now ..... funded by some big backers.

General gist of the answer is yes. They have a particular name for it, I can't remember, Intelligent Theory or something like that.

Basic premise is that we are evolving to mesh with artificial intelligence as part of a natural evolution geared toward interstellar travel, exploration and colonization that will guarantee the survival of our species. It's fascinating stuff.

There is some argument to be made that we have been evolving, as an intelligent species, for some 7 million years but it's been accelerated only in the past 50,000 years and it's beginning to reach the point where in the next five hundred years we will reach some modicum of, let's say for lack of a better way of putting it, bionic immortality where our bodies may be entirely artificial but our eyes and brains basically as we know them now. By artificial bodies I mean part machine, part organic built specifically to survive the rigors of space travel and colonization of any number of various planet types. Able to breath methane for instance. Able to withstand long term zero gravity living. Able to hibernate like a frog in -400 C environments.

This is what we are evolving into. All the while being able to pass on our DNA and share memories of our existence and experiences with others.

Able to have sex without procreation .... which would be handled in a test tube or by a surrogate being.

This is not science fiction. This is where physicists and psychologists believe we are heading. This is where current science is taking us.

This isn’t evolution if it has intelligent design behind it. Evolution supposedly “just happens”.

I never mentioned intelligent design.

Intelligent design has nothing to do with it.

This is Intelligence Theory ... or something like that. I'll text her and ask her tomorrow. They flew back home to Florida this morning with the grandbabies.

This is natural evolution based strictly upon environment and our natural evolutionary progression in order to survive.

As Michio Kaku is so fond of saying .... "Do you know why dinosaurs went extinct?"

Answer: Because they failed to evolve and develop a space program.

Evolution has stopped for humans.

It is accelerating for artificial intelligence.

Bacteria and viruses are experiencing hyper-evolution as a reaction to human activity.

The sixth great extinction of the earth’s mega fauna is under way because of human activity.

Yes it is still happening. Evolution doesn't necessarily take thousands to millions of years. Scientists are currently studying genomes that have changed in decades, as the human genome can quickly respond to new conditions.

Humans have evolved past the point of evolving. Nature is our bitch.
