Is constant texting starting to affect speech?

Was at a restaurant the other night. Teen girl, 15 or so, was always texting. Was almost as bad as the SNL skit. She would speak real funny as she pronounced words, as if she almost didn't know how to speak or barely did. Her dad told her to cut it out and talk normal. He finally took the phone away. She was livid the rest of the night.

No proof. Just thinking out loud more than anything. Can long term use during developmental years affect speech patterns?

I hate it when people actually say "OMG" or "LOL".

Kids nowadays definitely have less interpersonal skills than 10 years ago even. People adapt to their surroundings. It probably seems weird to them we can't seem to function unless standing right in front of one another

Why don't we still talk like the British? Language is constantly evolving.

Never seen this personally.
However, what bugs me is the text language. Especially amongst the professionals.
Occasionally I'll come across a person who uses "u" for you etc, etc.
I don't understand how you can text a vendor or customer and type like a 15 year old girl.
