I was born & raised in SWLa. I spent 20 years in the Air Force including 13 out of the last 14 years in Colorado Springs. It was an easy decision to retire here, one that I haven't regretted. The only regret is there's only one place that serves Cajun food & it's expensive as hell.

Lived in Shreveport for over 60 years. Moved here to Colorado last year. Absolutely wonderful. Utilities are actually cheaper in Fort Collins/Loveland/Longmont area than Shreveport.
Houses of course are more expensive but not by a ton. The rest of the cost of living is actually comparable.
The scenery is the best in the country. The Front Range and the drive to Estes Park is stunning.
I have not seen a single roach or other crawling insect other than a few spiders here.
Have not experienced any mosquitoes. 28 degrees here is nothing if the wind isn’t blowing. You can literally walk around in a flannel shirt and be comfortable.
The only thing I miss from Louisiana is going to LSU games and Downhome Country Sausage. Other than that wouldn’t trade where I live now for any place else.

My wife is from Arkansas, she loathed winter there. She loves it here. It makes a difference when it's not humid, windy, or have slushy snow.

For those of you who do live in Colorado, what do you like most about living there? The main negative I have heard is the cost of living, but are there any other negatives you have experienced?
I have a friend who lives right near I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs. He got a fricking mansion for $400k and loves it up there(7000 feet). He's about 15 minutes from a couple of good restaurants and pubs, a country club(very laid back), and Safeway/Home Depot/Kroger/etc.
We visit 2-3 times a year. Not much negative about his situation at all. The cold is drier and feels fine. Snow is beautiful and manageable if you have equipment like he does.
Except wet snow. Those wet snowy days suck donkey dicks. Those days it's just as cold as Southern Winters and add ice all over the roads/walkways.

I think people here are overlooking the elephant in the room. Colorado's population is pretty damned pretentious. It's not everyone there, but the proportion of self-absorbed douchecanoes you meet there is very high.
If you're one of those people who can't understand how anyone would look at CO and decide they'd rather live in MS, well, look in the mirror. You don't often run into the sort of person who makes bombastic internet posts about how shitty other places are in MS. People in MS are more likely to say, "that place doesn't seem too good, but actual human beings live there so I'll be nice and shut up."
People in MS are mostly at peace with who they are and with the fact that they're not in the coolest or richest 1%. I found that very refreshing when I moved there for a while in the 1990s, and it must be even more so now.

Outside of Denver and Boulder it's the opposite. Tons of middle class conservatives going about their business. My buddy's neighborhood 20 minutes north of Colorado Springs is full of retired Air Force folks enjoying the peace and quiet, removed from the bullshite. They laugh about the democrats and cuss Joe Biden just like they do down here.

To be fair I was mostly thinking of Denver, and I haven't spent much time in the truly rural parts of Colorado.

Colorado is great, except for when it's not. Been here for 10 years now and can't bring myself to leave for anywhere else. We live in Castle Rock, which is still in red Douglas County. Everyone in the state shits on the people here, but we don't really pay any mind. We very rarely go to Denver anymore, since it's turned into a homeless shithole. Douglas & Jefferson County have pretty much everything we need.
The mountains are getting harder and harder to get to. Traffic on Fridays and Sundays makes the appeal of a mountain weekend seem pretty shitty. Fortunately, wife is a teacher and I work for myself, so we can really enjoy them during the week in the summers. Cost of living is incredibly high, and pay hasn't quite kept up. The people are pretty shitty as well, and wear their liberal politics on their sleeves. I've got a small group of friends, and that's all one can really hope for here.

Used to be up there but overrun by liberals now. Any state that votes for Democrats goes into the bottom tier of states. Montana and Idaho are beautiful mountain states that haven't been run over by liberals (yet).

Lincoln's Roadhouse is legit for Cajun food and music. It's right off I-25 south of downtown.
Check it out. They do big arse blow out for Mardi Gras. Crawfish boil and Swamp Pop/Zydeco bands.
They also make good gumbo and poboys year-round. This has been certified by plenty of friends from Louisiana.
The original owner was from Abbeville, La. It's run by a younger guy now but still serves the same recipes and traditions.

We are a locally owned Blues Bar and Cajun Cafe. We have been serving some of the best live blues music and award winning comfort food in the Wash Park area for over 19 years. We host great local acts and some amazing national acts. In addition to the Blues, we also showcase Classic Rock, Swamp and Outlaw Country bands. We feature live music every Friday and Saturday nights and most Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons (when the Broncos are not playing). And we host the best Fat Tuesday party in town every year with a crawfish boil and a Cajun band!
