Is being called "straight" an insult these days?

Was in a group meeting, and rolled my eyes at a suggestion a "life is always happy" type pretty girl had, and the gay guy with valley girl voice consoled her with the comment "he's so straight" to which the rich girl replied "i know, right?"
Is this some type of insult like "gay" was in the 90s? I.e. dude that's so gay.
