Some friends adopted two kids that are not the same race as them, and that’s one of the most stable families I know.

Mom is an attorney and Dad is an engineer, so they will have it better than most...

I was a stamina and long distance runner but not real fast so I might have trouble adopting sprinters but I would not be against it.

I worked on the Navajo reservation for four years. Lots of dysfunction there. Problem is there are many kids who need foster care or adopted. Thing is the tribe will only allow other Navajos to get these children so many go without. Didn't want them to lose their "culture".

I've seen this numerous times as well at the hospital I work at. Navajo child is badly abused to the point of now needing a medical foster parent to take the child in and provide specialized medical care. You could have a foster parent that is a nurse with lots of medical training volunteer to take the child in....if he/she isn't Navajo then tribal CPS will refuse to send the child there. We had several situations like this and would end up with the child usually having to stay in the hospital for months and months because Navajo tribal CPS would only allow the child to be placed with a Navajo home.

Heaven forbid a white foster parent dare want to open up their home to a child in need.

But...the Navajo's close minded thinking is why they live the way they live out on the rez and why they will never really progress.

I “know” a white person who adopted a baby from Africa and returned it not too long after. I’m against that.

Nah, they live the way they live on the rez because the white man screwed them and stuck them there.

They get completely free healthcare and money from the government every month. Ability to access free college if they wanted.

There are opportunities available if they really wanted to take them that would get them off the rez.

My cousin (white) adopted a kid (black) from some other country. My problem with that is not because the kid being a different race, he's a very sweet kid it's that they spent probably 60k in total to do it when there's kids in our country that needs adopted right now.... but they have always been the hey look at me kinda people so oh well

Yeah but kids in the system in the U.S. aren't dying. They may not have homes...but they are still provided basic needs.

Orphans in certain third world countries are not always provided bare basics.

So I could see a couple wanting to adopt internationally and know they saved that child from a level of poverty not seen in the U.S.

Also...usually less red tape when adopting internationally. It's more expensive...but more guaranteed. Don't have to worry about birth parents changing their mind at the last minute, etc.

my cousin did the same and I asked her “ why not just adopt from here?” She said she was scared of family members wanting to come back into the kids life later on. The kid is now 16 and is special needs

You and nurse both have good points but 60k? That's enough to change another kids life and also I'm more of a help our own kids here before some other country but that's just how I feel

Adoption is expensive. Even here in the U.S. it's expensive...anywhere from 20-50K is average.

For international adoptions part of that 60k is all the travel you have to do and lodging. You usually have to stay in the country you are adopting in for an extended amount of time(like several weeks). And sometimes you have to make numerous trips back and forth.

Well apparently that isn't how that person felt.

Seriously, why would anyone give a shite? I know that's just the world we live in and to some degree I guess you have to expect it, but I don't understand that mindset.

Assuming you’re in Louisiana, that should explain everything considering how hillbilly, backwoods this place is and always will be.

I think it would add some unnecessary complications to the lives of both the child and the parents....but I certainly have no problem with it.

I am a nurse as well LSUNurse and saw the same things. Worked on an adolescent behavioral health unit and the problems there were heartbreaking. Had a love/hate relationship with the rez. I could go on and on.

that’s my cousins veiws I’m 100 percent with you. My wife and I fostered a kid for six months ( 3 yr old) kid was great and I thought I didn’t want anymore since mine were grown and I had grandkids. Anyway we just fell for this kid and I called and got everything set up for us to adopt him. Then we get a call about his mom completing some drug course and the court gave her back her son. Which if she got her life back together is great but we were crushed... I told my wife I didn’t ever want to do that again
