Is alligator overpopulation a huge problem, or no?

If so, why is there not a more aggressive attempt to solve the problem?
- the meat is good
- the skin has good worth
- killing more would piss off PETA
let's be honest, PETA Yankees would love for more and more alligators to kill more and more southerners
we've got 12 footers in Central Arkansas now, and that's just from people I know personally
Also, I wonder if states and municipalities cover up alligator attacks as much as they can (and crocodiles in Florida) because they don't want tourism affected? Like the mayor in Jaws

I think in south LA they are. They are everywhere and the season is only about 30 days.

I don't see a problem. If it was, LDWF would increase tags.

It's way worse than that.
My Facebook moms group has been hearing rumors about an alligator-worshipping Satanic cult that's been growing again and is feeding trafficked children to gators as part of their sex rituals. Most of the local politicians are believed to be part of it too.

the python population is a larger problem... they're killing off the alligator population in the Everglades

Yes, it's a huge problem.

They are extending the season.

No.

Why is this a problem? Are they killing children and/or people?

Not a chance.

Season was increased two seasons ago to 60 days.

At least here in Florida, people going where the alligators are is a much bigger issue than alligators going where people are.

Sounds like exporting a bunch of gators to that area could be a good answer.

Not around my property anymore

Yes. And what I’ve been told is that farm raised gator tastes better than wild caught. Which has caused a big increase in gator farming. Farmed gator meat and hides has driven down the price of wild caught resulting in fewer people out hunting the wild caught. Don’t know if this is true. Just what I was told.
ETA, my answer is Louisiana specific.

I never understood why Florida doesn't let you kill them. They will let you catch them but not kill them. They need to just be slaughtered.

I’m not sure that humans are allowing it as much as humans are really struggling to stop it.

Alligators are a yankee conspiracy.

They are definitely plentiful in South LA.
I hope we never get the python problem.
