iPhone Bringing Devices Together

Just noticed the newest Apple iPhone update has a new Airdrop step called “Bringing Devices Together” that allows phones to exchange numbers, photos and more just by holding your phone near the top of another iPhone.
This may be something a lot of users are already aware of but it’s new to me and was switched off as soon as I noticed it, I’d prefer to choose who and when I share photos and phone numbers with.
You just go to General>AirDrop>BringingDevicesTogether>off…may keep strangers from swiping your personal info.

Can't you already do this with NFC that has been around for almost 10 years?

It’s more about not knowing how automatic process/interface with proximity is when compared to the existing airdrop process. In beta 17s it wasn’t clear how selections limit what info is transferred or if that selection would be default choice next time around. I thought limits would be part of settings or with contacts, but in beta it just popped up with info to share. I just turned it off as I didn’t need it and didn’t trust the beta to be fully on top of privacy and security issues.
I honestly can’t remember if proximity overrides airdrop settings of sharing with contacts only. When sharing contacts its would seem weird to limit it to contacts only. Many don’t know selecting airdrop with everyone is now limited to 10 minutes now which sucks for somethings and is probably too long for something like a contact transfer.
It’s one of those features briefly touched on with finishing an airdrop transfer over cell network if you move too far away. I think one was ready initially with 17 and one wasn’t or something like that. Maybe both weren’t but regardless one or both just got thrown into an update that many weren’t looking for. It shouldn’t be turned on by default when new with an update to 17.

From what I understand it has to be near the top of the phone- i might’ve misunderstood that part.
I don’t understand the Facebook drama - can’t you just change it contacts only?
I hate facebook

You obviously don't know how it works or more accurately how it doesn't work.

Boomers on Facebook are freaking out. Simpletons afraid everyone can steal your info from walking by you with a phone. It’s sad and funny at the same time
