honestly was shocked that the judge allowed the prosecutor to keep asking Paul's friend if he knew about financial information. It concerns me that it could open the door for an appeal if found guilty.

Re:Money Crimes introduced as motive
Judge is saying that Defense opened door to Murdaugh’s character when they asked could witness imagine any reason why Murdaugh would kill his wife and son.

Also didn’t like way objection was made. Said it had no legal reasoning behind it.

Judge is discussing if AM financial crimes will be allowed. Said defense opened door by discussing how great AM’s character is and that he couldn’t commit the murders

I like him. Poot is known for taking command of the court and Newman is not allowing it.

Short break ,then jury will be brought in. State will call a Snapchat representative. That testimony is expected to be short. After that they will need to hold the 404 in camera hearing since the next witnesses are from the law firm.

To clarify, the door has not been opened yet to financial crimes. Judge allowed the evidence yesterday to come in under rule 403. He will hold a separate, private hearing on the 404 evidence (financial crimes/motive) to determine what, if anything, will be allowed.

I wonder whether or not they are Democrat Party rivals.

I have a close friend who lives on Spring Island, and she was telling me quite a few stories about the Murdaughs and Lafittes.

Southern Gothic.

The state calls Jeanne Seckinger, chief financial officer of the Parker Law Group and former CFO of PMPED. Judge Newman excuses the jury. Looks like we're about to get into some financial stuff.

Who was advising Buster in working out a settlement with Mallory's family that happened just before this trial began?

People murder their spouses all the time. But to murder your child...more often than not, if that happens, it's by someone who's severely mentally ill and not in their right mind. The type who confesses immediately and says they heard voices or some shite that told them to do it. This guy was clearheded enough to lie and craft a story. What a garbage human being.

Why did the jury have to leave? Will they hear any of this or is that still undecided?

So the defense showed a picture of a happy loving family at Dad's birthday party. BUT. One person at that party is the guy who was a part of Dad's money grab from the law firm. And that opened or may have opened the windows to the financial improprieties of AM as tied to murders.

quote:

Indeed, in the birthday video introduced by the defense, Murdaugh is seen with his best friend, the attorney Chris Wilson, who is accused of helping him to embezzle funds.

And why was that day unlike any other day?

quote:

Prosecutor Creighton Waters seized on the attempt and grilled Will Loving, a friend of Paul's, with a series of questions about Murdaugh's financial misdeeds - most pointedly, whether he knew that on the morning of the murders on June 7, 2021, the defendant had been confronted over $792,000 in missing fees from his law firm.

Undecided. Judge is determining what can be presented to them. Honestly is shows motive, so why it’s not automatically granted is beyond me.

Bear in mind the accused also admitted to some bizarre scheme whereby he paid someone to murder him so his older son could collect insurance proceeds and somehow it went awry and AM was only shot and wounded.

Seems to be kinda unstable IMO even if he is able to keep it together and appear normal when necessary.

ETA : from that incident “ He also tested positive for barbiturates and opiates in his blood, the documents show. One of his attorneys had said he suffered from an opioid addiction for 20 years.“

If the judge decides the jury can hear it, do they just watch the footage or do they have to go through all this questioning all over again?

I believe they will have to do it all over. Is she the only one expected to testify on the financial stuff or are there other lawyers too? If so, they will have to do this each time?

Please excuse me if this question has already been answered. Did he have big life insurance policies on son and wife? Why kill them?

Millions in embezzlement discovered, terminated by his law firm the morning of the murders, estranged wife likely divorce looming, civil cases pending re: his sons drunken boat accident that killed a girl, so basically world crashing down scenario with someone that was arguably not very stable.

Still a lot not known like if the wife and/or son had knowledge of other acts like the circumstances behind their longtime housekeeper falling and dying in the home, or a local gay youth being killed with rumored ties to oldest son.
