If it was a honky at the helm, they would have been fired long ago.

There is also a very incestuous relationship between the local press and politicians.
For frick’s sale, SWB was a reporter for WBRZ for years while she was also serving as a politician.
Always hilarious to see Nak go banging on the door of some cane field councilman over a questionable expense report but he hides under the bed when there's real corruption/incompetence in EBR government.

Only person to turn this around is Speedy.

No fixing democratic run cities. Not until the demographics shift.

This is what the voters wanted. Maybe not all of them but the Dems control the city now and pretty much the parish too.

This is considered a success by her constituents and will be the status quo. Anyone attempting to change the status quo will be accused of trying to "stop progress".

Does this mean that shooting NBR people in the head will be acceptable?
Because that is where most of them are already going and this just progresses things faster.

It means that anyone who sends the cops in to stop them shooting people in the head will be the anti-Christ

The Chief of Police, Murphy Paul, is clearly out of his depth. He seldom meets with his line, on the street officers, and never seeks their input in addressing the violence they witness daily. He is, in fact, a politician, not a police officer. Chief Paul responds to any criticism of his decisions or leadership through harsh punitive measures that are directed at anyone who questions or comments on his edicts. He employs internal investigations as a weapon to silence his officers. Investigations that don’t look for the truth, but investigation that give him the ability to issue unfair discipline that not only hurts the officer, but their family as well.
Well of course. Who could have foreseen that happening... besides pretty much everyone.

Paul should absolutely be forced to resign but this:
Is nonsense.
This line of thinking allows a failure of a mayor, like Broome, to use Paul as a scapegoat. She is just as, if not more, responsible for this abysmal crime rate. And you can throw in the handful of judges who consistently rerelease violent criminals back into society.

Chiefs of Police are responsible solely for the safety of the communities they serve. Unfortunately, many are not held accountable for the crime rates in their jurisdictions. This should end. The “buck” stops with the chief.

The International Union of Police Association (IUPA) President released a scathing statement addressed to the Baton Rouge Police Chief, Murphy Paul.
To Broome, this is just an endorsement to double down and keep him as chief.
WAFB reported that this college drive event had been floating around on social media as "Super Saturday".
Any competent police chief would have headed this off, and made this a non event.
There was absolutely NO excuse for what happened Saturday night. Plans should have been in place to handle GB concert, along with proper policing of the city. If manning was the problem, then ask the sheriff's office, state police, and even National Guard for backup.
This is nothing but complete incompetence from the top.

We did a meme centered around this last year. Let me see if I can dig it up

Him and the mayors goal is to have the department at over 90% black officers.

Chief Paul should step down and let a more qualified chief of police take the reins.
Is this candidate going to magically drop out of the sky? If Paul resigns, are we to believe the mayor finds and appoints a Harry Callahan in his place?
The city needs Batman at this point. Then again, even he had a police chief that tried.
While we're at it, let's stop using the word "incompetence" in regards to any of this. These people know exactly what they're doing, and they're very competent at it.
