Just got a call from a company about setting up an interview. It is a smaller oilfield supply company. I applied to this position a month or so when I was out of work.

Is this just answering the phone and taking dudes out to lunch? Is is o/t baller money?

Roommate is in inside sales & hates his life. He's powering through in the hopes that he gets a promotion one day into a more senior role. Good luck

If your fresh out of school and want a future In sales you generally have to start inside. If you bust your arse and don't mind getting paid dirt for a few years it can be worth it

I'm in this position. I find every day to be difficult to come to work. We are a small office (two outside sales, one inside sales, and one sales support).

I know if I put in my time and grind I can move into outside sales. I get aggravated sitting in my office and hearing the two outside guys complain about their bonuses and company paid vehicles.

I think I'll pass. I graduate in December but I've been working in the industrial field for 6 years. Thanks!

I don’t know what you mean by asking if it’s worth it?

Is it worth giving up a 12 year career as an NFL quarterback or as a touring musician that sells out stadiums? NO

Is it more interesting than selling payroll software? I would think so.

I guess it all depends on what your options are.

Sounds easy if you’re not an introvert.

I'm making around 50 a year right now. 40 hour weeks with Friday's off. No stress and 3 weeks vacation plus a week of sick. Not balling but I'm very comfortable.

You will do the outside sales guy’s bitch work. While he makes the money and takes the clients to twin peaks then goes home early.
Did I mention take the outside gig or nothing at all?

protip #1, don't listen to 99.9% of the posts when you create a topic on TD

protip #2 you have to start somewhere, it could be worse. It would probably be easy, and you don't have to cold call all the time like you think. I'm sure most of their sales are already generated and you'll be creating quotes, helping customers, etc.
