I may need an inside guy in BR
Hey man, I'm originally from BR and looking to get back there. I'm also looking for a career change and have been applying and interviewing for Inside Sales jobs in Monroe, BR, and Lafayette. If you have an opportunity available, I'm VERY interested in talking with you about it.

The interview is in Broussard
Interesting. I work for an oilfield supply company in Broussard.
Who’s the individual that contacted you?

Every company is different. I started out part time in a place. Moved up to outside sales. Just got promoted to gm of one of our offices.
50+ at 27 is more than I thought I’d be making.

True, but I know a few guys who do this in the forest products industry and they make pretty good money. You have to be good at wheeling and dealing on the phone.

Not in the oilfield supply business. He’ll be a glorified order taker. He won’t call any customers, they’ll call him. He’ll enter orders, reply to RFQs, and get people their shite when they need it. He’ll buyout what he doesn’t have in stock and arrange delivery for the goods. Probably will be on call on nights and weekends.
It’s a decent gig and can be a great way to network into a pretty damn good industry. Despite the economic turbulence, it’s one of the funnest jobs I’ve ever had.

Not at all true in the oilfield / instrumentation / petrochemical industry
It’s also more than pushing paper

Sure...if you like talking on the phone 40 or 50 times a day, sending and receiving emails constantly, dealing with snarky office chicks and the temptation to permanently bail at lunch, then it may be the job for you.

Worked inside sales for about a year with a tech company. Hated my life. Picked up on the tech piece pretty quick and was able to get transferred into Project Management.

All this sounds exactly like what I want to do. I'm changing careers at 40, and this fits my short and 3 year plan. I find steady employment now with decent income, doing something I enjoy without the stress of a commission based income or quota driven. Thoroughly learn the business, industry, customers, competitors, etc with practical and 'hands on' knowledge. Use that to transition to Outside Sales where I'll have the knowledge and tools to succeed and start making real money.
I've been looking at heavy equipment sales/rentals, oil and gas supply, instrumentation, etc. THe opportunities are there, just have to find the right one.

If its a foot in the door to the oilfield where you can learn the ins and outs and get experience then go for it...especially if it can lead to outside sales.

Exactly the field I’m in. Before this promotion I just turned down an inside gig out in lake chuck.
