Left is fueled by liberal arts academia (not the STEM side), Hollywood with the entertainment industry, and big tech.
Right is fueled by energy and agriculture.

They're fueld by votes. They are beholden to votes. Their stances are dictated by votes. If they don't get their votes, they don't have a job.
Votes are the currency of any politician. They will say or do what ever they need to get the votes. Once they do, they will do as little as possible to rock any boat and will change their beliefs to suit the vote.
