They dont make the products you buy, they make the products you buy better.

The majority of what BASF makes is used in manufacturing of plastics, foams, and similar materials.

The MDI plant is where the incident occurred.

Could also be CO

He got gassed with phosgene gas or MDI pre mixture DADPM(that’s what they call it at Rubicon). That DADPM vapor they would get would be HCL and aniline.

Either of those 2 instances would leave a person in VERY grave danger/condition.

That might be aniline. I think phosgene is use to make TDI - different unit.

Phosgene used in both.

quote:

The first step of the production of MDI is the reaction of aniline and formaldehyde, using hydrochloric acid as a catalyst to produce a mixture of diamine precursors, as well as their corresponding polyamines:

Synthesis of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane.svg

Then, these diamines are treated with phosgene to form a mixture of isocyanates, the isomer ratio being determined by the isomeric composition of the diamine. Two different reaction mechanisms for this transformation are possible, namely "phosgenations first" and "step-wise phosgenations".[7]

Components of phosgene are chlorine and carbon monoxide. Mixed in a reactor over a carbon bed under heat. Phosgene is used in MDI process.

MDI-gorilla glue, foam for car seats and dashboards, glue for plywood and OSB, spray foam insulation…

That’s the devils gas. I worked on building the new TDI unit 20 years ago.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a polyurethane butt plug out there.

Look around you, no matter where your at. Pretty much everything you see has a constituent in it made at BASF

Company statement said inert substance. That would rule out phosgene and CO. Maybe it was just nitrogen.
