in the age of uber & lyft, is living in the "cool, hip" part of town less important?

sure, there have always been taxis, but in cities like BR & NOLA, ride sharing apps have definitely made getting rides easier, faster, and more affordable. obviously i'm not talking about living in chalmette because you can get an uber ride. what i'm talking about is choosing to live in mid city or lakeview (instead of uptown) to save some money. that's just one example and it's probably not the best, but you get the idea.

what does the OT think?

I've considered this also. If you could save a whole lot (like say in Houston) it may be worth it.

Living in a nicer part of town is all about being able to tell everyone where you live, and how your neighborhood is nicer than theirs.

Ehhh I think living in "cool, hip" part of town is less about driving convenience, but more about overall healthier lifestyle via walkable neighborhood amenities.

Bruh, I think you can take my word on this...the answer is 'No'

having a 'ride' to neighborhoods are a million times different than living in said hood.... there is MUCH MUCH more to it than just being able to uber to a cool 'hip' bar.

i lived in the CBD and on Bourbon over the last 9 years until this past year I moved back to the Irish Channel.

I probably saved a ton of money by riding my bike in the Irish channel (and walking) by moving there than the money I spent on uber/Lyft from the CBD to upt

i don't have strong thoughts on this since i've never lived in a city (lsu doesn't count). it was just a random thought i had today and i wanted to see what the interent thought of it.

Oh no doubt, and I kinda know you from here and know where you at st this point and trying to make some
Potential moves to get the next chapter of your life set off right.

I know it may be different in every city isn't as urban and compact as Nola, but I will say that there is just sooo much in a neighborhood that is hard to quantify. Hard to explain but just over all feel and access and just all around living. It's much more than just being able to get to some
Cool bar..... make sense?

Like people wondered how I could live on the 1200 block of bourbon, or in the cbd on the 12th floor... but I would tell people being young and just my soul likes to be in the middle of things. I mean on a regular Tue I may be just going to work and walking the same blocks and doing the same mundane stuff, but every single day is different, different folks on the elevator, different stuff on the street, may pass a second line, just it made my life not 'unpredictable' because I was going the same route to work, it's just something about being in the middle of a cool happening neighborhood where you literally meet new people on the streetcar everyday or whatever it is...

I've got some whisky in me so I have no clue if my rambling makes sense....

But you are a younger, smart guy, and I feel I been running it with you long enough to know, I feel you would enjoy and thrive in the environments I find myself longing for

man you can't really say this, you could argue many neighborhoods each way, all very subjective

I will say my stretch of Magazine has some of the hottest broads all day every day that I'd put up against any other stretch of the city

I don't know if anyone has saved money as a result of living in lakeview.

Even living in Uptown Uber is still needed at times.

yep, I'm in the channel and why if I'm wanting to hit Bacchnal or some Pizza delicious or want to go run Tulane Broads on a random
Night at Bruno's or Boot, or hit up Triva on Banks then walk over to 12 mile after?
