I, as I presuming many, received one of these letters for a vehicle I used to own. I never had a lapse of insurance and I had turned in the tag.

After bitching and moaning (though not by phone as I never got a human) yesterday both my state rep and the OMV emailed me to fill out form #2282 found under forms on the OMV website. It is a notice of disposition that you have to sign as the truth as to the disposition of the vehicle.

Both acted as if that would be sufficient to solve the issue.

Time will tell but worth a shot.

Is there a link to the form, in which it can be downloaded? I don't need one, but there's probably a number of people here that could potentially use it. What a bull shite money grab by the state. This is worse than red light speeding cameras.

My biggest concern was the credit ding (which could be disputed) and the threat to revoke professional licenses.

An engineer, realtor, or a cosmetologist? The state could revoke your license.

If it makes it to the Office of Debt Recovery, the state can seize assets at participating banks or tax refunds. Like to fish? Too bad. No fishing license until this little matter of BS is paid.

It looks like you don't have to get the form notarized so they can't tell if you're crossing your fingers when you sign.

It is awful. But, not worse. Maybe equal. Revenue-Based Law Enforcement is one of the worst things the government can do.

Looks like someone just said "Frick it"

BTW

The legislation (and fee increases) were written by this guy. He is the source of the $500,000 cost to mail the letters.

Rep. Barry Ivey
iveyb@legis.la.gov
(225)261-5739

DPS and LPS head honcho, who immediately stated they would not enforce the 300,000 letters that were pre 2006. Thus immediately wasting $125,000 (by their numbers) to print and mail those letters that will not be enforced.

Mike Edmonson
7919 Independence Blvd.
Baton Rouge, LA 70806
no email provided online

LPS Chief PIO (who stated he never read the letter) is below. I have not had the pleasure of a return call or email.

Lt. J.B. Slaton
Phone: (225) 925-6202
Fax: (225) 925-3717
JB.Slaton@la.gov

I actually received a late response from OMV "Contact Us" on their website and a quick one from my state rep.

So, just mail this form in with the letter they sent you or bring it DMV?

You have a link to this? I'm curious if a letter was attempted to be mailed to me. I left in 2005 but didn't actually register my car with AZ till 2006 or 2007. However, I don't know how they would have reached me cause the last address in LA I had with them was my parent's old address....the same address to a house that no longer exists.

I sent the form in by certified mail. Have no idea if it will actually work.

Those are my numbers. Ivey was quoted in the Advocate that sending the letters cost $500,000 in the hope of recovering $444 million.

Edmonson was quoted on WAFB, the Advocate, and the Times-Picayune that 25% or 300,000 of the letters are thought to be pre 2006 and it was decided not to enforce. 500,000 x 0.25 = $125,000 spent to produce and mail letters which they will not enforce.

Isn't there a link to some site where you can check your status?

Anyone have it? I think I can find my old LA driver's license somewhere.
