I was in NO for the first time in a few months with family and friends. I had 5 different homeless looking people come up to either me or the other Dad in the group and say something to the effect- hey I like your shoes, give me one guess and I can tell you what city/state you purchased them. What is the scam here.

That’s not what they asked you.

They asked you where you “got” them, not where you “purchased” them. And you “got” them on your feet.

It’s the oldest trick in the New Orleans playbook.

I don't think this is quite it.

Lol. They're still doing that shite?

And it's "I bet you $5 I know where you got your shoes."

And the hustle is... "On your feet."

Then they scare pussies and they pay.

If you have been to New Orleans, you know the scam. The shoe shine shark will ask you if you want a shine. If you say, "No thanks", he says "Betcha five dollars I can tell you where you got your shoes." You say, "Sorry, no thanks." Then, he persists, saying that he can not only tell you where you got those shoes but he can tell you what street you got them on.

The unsuspecting tourist takes the bet because he is certain there is no way the hustler can know such personal information. Then the shoeshine hustler answers, "You got your shoes on your feet. And your feet are on Bourbon Street." He hassles you for the five bucks until some mall cop chases him off.

Are you sure he was that detailed with the wording or was it more “Hey I bet I know where you got your shoes?”.

The answer for years has been on my feet. But if he can tell the City/State I purchased them, then I’d take that bet!

A few years ago i had a bum ask me for a cigarette as I walked to Harrah's.

I told him to do a trick and I'd give him one.

He punched himself in the head 3 times.

I've heard them say that along with what ever street you're standing on....

It can go like this... "You got them on your feet right here in New Orleans Louisian on Bourbon street...."

The "where you got your shoes" game and the "cigarette" game are 40 years old and still getting tourists to fork over $10

Last time they tried that on me I said "You don't like these old Walmart shoes", and I walked away.
