If you live in Louisiana, you need to make 2.3 times the state's minimum wage to afford a two-bedroom apartment in the state, according to a new report.

The report, released by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, shows you need to make almost $17 per hour to afford the average two-bedroom apartment ($877 per month).

A minimum wage job is not meant to sustain the life of a functioning adult.

It’s for high school kids to gain experience.

If you are into adulthood and working minimum wage, you made a wrong turn somewhere.

If you make min wage you probably shouldn't have a family yet as you really cant afford it. So tell me again why they would need a 2 bedroom apt?

Well let's raise the minimum wage to that so we have more people making zero dollars a month

Since when did minimum wage become a career lifestyle able support a family? That was never the intention of it.

I would assume they mean having a roommate. Not a family

thanks for the statement of fact.

on an unrelated note, government mandated price controls on labor is the most cruel and racist policy that has existed in the US since slavery.

An 18 year old can make $18-19 driving a truck or cleaning up in a machine shop.

Two bedroom apartments do not cost 877 dollars outside of New Orleans and LSU campus. Article is wrong.

Wage aside, housing prices are kind of absurd for a place like Louisiana. My first grownup apartment was $875/m in Baton Rouge.

And having actually lived for a few years in a 700sf apartment, that’s not a lot of room. Mrs Prez and I lived in an apartment that size for our first year of marriage. And thinking back it contributed to a lot of fights.

don't they base this off of your rent not exceeding a third of your income or some chit like that?

You shouldnt need a 2 bedroom apartment if you making minimum wage. Maybe 2 adults making minimum wage because they have a child.

Quick math... 3 people in a two bedroom house at min wage leaves money for groceries and utilities.

Bonus $ if one climbs a rung or two up the ladder.

Then get a better job, or do better at the one you are at.
