Interestingly, in NOLA where one goes to school matters. It’s the only place I’ve lived in where “Where did you graduate?” refers to high school vs college.
This. It’s on the same level as Al Bundy rocking a Polk High shirt.

A lot of people want to send their kids to Catholic school for the religious education in addition to academics. The Catholic schools are cheaper than private schools and the benefits of the religious education and tradition far outweigh the costs in the long run than going to some public school that will have a different name in 20 yrs because some woke people want to change the name Alot of Catholic schools offer financial assistance for those who can’t pay the full tuition Christian Brothers is an excellent middle school

Northshore:
Northlake Christian
Christ Episcopal
Cedarwood
Hannan
SSA
St Paul
Our Lady of the Lake
St Peters
Mary Queen of Peace
My kids go to one of the Catholic schools on the list. It's much cheaper than the other private schools, but they get a lot of donations from the school community to make up for it and allow good families to be able to afford it. It is close and supportive. The school is constantly renovating and advancing in technology/programs. A large portion of the parents at the school are products of the catholic school system on the southshore.
I visited a couple of other schools on the list which are upper tier in tuition cost. They were both great, and the staff were extremely nice and supportive, but we just felt more at home where we are right now.
I would visit all of these schools and make a decision then. Just because a school has the most expensive tuition, does not mean that its the best for your child.
I convinced a vendor I use to send his kids to one of the expensive private schools when he was skeptical about doing it. He admits now after a couple years in that this was the best decision, and is amazed at how supportive the community/administration are. He never saw that when he went through.

BINGO
I am not the most religious person out there, but I believe in it and value what you get out of it. A combination of religion and academics can be superior to a school that is just known for its academics. Teaching family values is as important as ever.

I've officiated track meets at LSU.
Episcopal kids are always polite, listen, etc.
You can guess which kids act retarded.

My boys go to a private school in Slidell now and will move to Brother Martin in 8th grade.

My son and wife are trying to stay out of the Catholic schools bc we aren’t Catholic. My kids attend Catholic so not snubbing it, just don’t see the point if not participating in the religious aspect. I think they will go with Covington Elementary in a few years. Unless something is bad about it. But I’m also encouraging them to look at Kehoe and North Lake Christian to make a determination. I don’t know much about the schools over there and am happy to assist financially if the public isn’t good. They moved to northshore and say they may as well use the public schools.

Episcopal churches and schools in general are mini gay factories for whatever reason.

There are good public schools here with quality kids as products. However, I have always looked at private as joining a community with similar goals, relationships, and values. It will help with their social development. I don’t want to be going to a school board meeting begging to please stop doing this, or doing a flip out Anti woke speech like you see on social media. I would rather be at a place which relies on private funds to operate, and the decisions they make could affect if that increases or decreases enrollment and donations. It’s a private business with so much to lose. If you align with their values and they align with yours, it’s a win-win. If not, you have a choice to go somewhere else.
A lot of families I know have education subsidized by grandparents, and these are all good hard working and loving people. If you can afford it and your son wants it, I suggest pursuing it.
I have heard that Mandeville public schools are way better than Covington public schools, but I can’t give an opinion on that.

And the feeder schools to those schools
I’ve known kids from all the different parochial elementary kids get into either, I know homeschool kids that go to both, kids that went to public school that go to both - you have to pass the admission requirements to get in.

Agree with what you say. I’ve always looked at it is community and peers.

My wife wants to send our daughter to Sacred Heart, and I will be 6 feet under before I ever allow that to happen
I understand not wanting to spend the money, but it’s not a bad place and the academics are decent. However, I’ve only ever known really smart girls that have gone there.
My original plan was to send our oldest to sacred heart and then put her where I went to high school when it was time
Posted on 8/9/25 at 11:19 am to GreenRockTiger
I’m not saying Sacred Heart is a bad school, but there exist other all girl catholic high schools that are far cheaper and provide the same or better education.
Thats just my experience growing up in New Orleans and knowing girls who attended the various high schools in the area.

I just don’t understand fighting your wife on it. Is she alumna or she just really wants your daughter to go there?
My mom wanted to go to Redemptorist but my MawMaw wouldn’t let her (my grandma didn’t go to high school) and all my life my siblings and I heard about that shite. So, I’m not saying your daughter should have a choice but maybe she should be asked what she wants, too.
Posted on 8/9/25 at 11:37 am to GreenRockTiger
I’m fighting my wife because I typically don’t like spending more money than I need to.
She went to a sacred heart school in another state, so she is fixated on the one here. It’s an extremely frustrating situation.
