It's been answered like four times in the first page of this thread. Either you're a hoaxer or a troll.

Well if the last two years have taught us ANYTHING, we've learned that the G is absolutely full of shite.

There's also a mirror on the moon that we use to measure the distance from earth-moon with incredible accuracy. How do you think that got there if we did not land on the moon?

Pretty sure CMOS sensors didn’t exist back then, or at least not in the way it functions now lol

I'm just asking a question. The cameras used even back then was very hi def. They should have picked up stars in such a dark background of the lunar surface.

I'm trying to answer you. Politely too.

The 1960s, custom Hasselblad cameras were excellent, but I don't think I'd classify them as "hi-def".

"They should have picked up stars in such a dark background" is simply an inaccurate statement. You can wish it to be true, but that does not change optics nor physics.

NOTE: I worked in USA's Camera Lab at the Johnson Space Center, for Space Shuttle, from 2006-2011. What else can I answer?

I figured he was gonna ask how the flag can fly since the moon has no atmosphere.

You can see this if you have a bright light in your yard. Go outside at night and focus your phone's camera on the area lit by the bright light (as in the moon pics that you posted) and it will struggle to pick up stars in the night sky.

If the astronauts had been trying to take pictures of stars they would have focused on the "sky" and extended the exposure time so that the camera could capture more light

Thanks. This wasn't a troll thread.

I was genuinely curious why stars didn't show up. It appears my questions have been answered.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Serious or troll? If serious, the flagpole was an L-shaped bracket.

Not sure if you got any serious answers yet, OP, but here goes:

Look at how fricking bright the spaceman is, especially his backpack. It looks like it’s damn near backlit. While the space suits were white, they weren’t THAT fricking white!

Here is Buzz Aldrin on the moon:

Here’s Buzz Aldrin’s suit (the exact same suit in the above photo) back on earth:

Less dramatically, go outside and look at the moon. What color is it? Would you then guess that a moon rock is actually this color?

So what I’m getting at, OP, is your question is easily explained by a phenomenon you’re already acquainted with. Every time you take a photo outside with you’re iPhone, know how you have to put your finger on the object of focus so everything else doesn’t get washed out? Well they didn’t have that feature with their Moon Camera, and further that very effect in the moon is exacerbated tremendously due to no atmosphere to speak of. The moon (and the space suits and even the lunar modules) are basically a giant fricking mirror for the sun. The stars in the sky stand no chance.

Tl;dr, the stars got washed out by the sunlight reflecting off the lunar surface

Serious troll.

I knew how they did it but doubted the OP did.

Go easy on him...

when hoaxers make stupid declarations, that show poor understanding of the physical universe, light, shadow, 1/6 gravity, simple harmonic motion, etc... when they mindlessly declare their bullshite as fact, that gets annoying.

But Bamarep, seemingly, heard one of those dumb (but tasty, like bait) arguments, and asked us to 'splain it. Which we did. I'll allow it!
