In-Laws: Tougher for husbands or wives?

Wife.

Men don’t compare shite like women do.

Wife, because man only thinks, “I’ll eat, ignore everything while watching football and checking Social media and Tigerdroppings... frick anything else.”

Based on all the whining threads the last couple of days I would have thought it was the husbands.

I know both men and women who have crappy ILs, and it seems like a pretty even split. I think the difference is that crappy ILs seem to have more points of attack against women. With men, they can go after their jobs/careers, or pound the “not good enough for my daughter” argument as a fallback position.

Women can be equally vulnerable at the “you’re not good enough for my baby boy” position, but they’re also easy targets for aspersions over their career — including whether or not they should have one, running the household, cooking and cleaning, and how their kids are being raised. ILs, at least, seem to assign the primary responsibility for those areas to their daughters-in-law (even if they’re actually shared), so they’re always happy to point out each and every perceived shortcoming they can find.

But hopefully it goes without saying that a dedicated set of ILs can find ways to make anyone’s life hell if they’re given an opening.
