Apparently like 90% of Charleston's "local" shrimp was found to be foreign caught...

Yeah, if OP has an issue with imported seafood, he should go ahead and stop eating at restaurants period.

Pappas restaurants here in Houston never use frozen seafood, I worked at one (as a kitchen manager) for many years and I can tell you, with the exception of ketchup and table salt, they pretty much make everything from scratch and only use fresh ingredients

Prawn Fraud is widespread.

Correct- it's not a Charleston problem, it is a USA problem.

When I buy shrimp in the Charleston area, I buy it off the boat. It's a shame you have to do that nowadays because you can't trust anybody. Maybe if a few people started going to jail for lying, at least the labeling would be honest.

A) can’t believe you thought they used fresh, domesticated shrimp to begin with

B) you’d be surprised how many places you go use frozen, international shrimp

I wonder if the Piggly Wiggly in Hilton head will continue to purchase American shrimp. They usually are the best on the island.

If your business strategy is to target customers from a demographic that notoriously skips out on checks, uses fake excuses to get free entrees/desserts, and starts the occasional brawl, then you're likely a fricking idiot.

That’s great to know, but is it all domestic seafood? I know Chilean sea bass can’t be domestic, but shrimp, crawfish, crab meat, etc.

Not at all but if you’re going to ever get my business, it has to us seafood. I won’t eat imported seafood anywhere. It’s my own hang up.

The Piggly Wiggly in Mt. Pleasant (Charleston) also has kept a great reputation for decades for having fresh local shrimp (and more), as does Simmon's Seafood down the street. There are places where you can reliably get it, I was using a little bit of hyperbole above. And really it's the restaurants that are ripping people off moreso than the actual purveyors of raw shrimp. It's a lot harder to rip people off on raw shrimp than it is with cooked shrimp.
