This looks like another pork barrel project to me.
You call it pork barrel, I call it potential to bilk the state/feds for the right of way on my place along the proposed path north of Logansport/south of Shreveport.

I hope that 49 is eventually done. If they bring the areas south of Lafayette and near Morgan City up to interstate grade that would probably shave at least 30 minutes off of my trips home.

It’s been a while since I’ve been through Broussard, but it seemed like it had gotten a lot better when they reworked it 7-8 years ago.

I guess nothing will really happen unless/until they demolish those 3-4 blocks in Lafayette, though. I always assumed that was the holdup - basically the Laffy version of the Washington Street exit.

I think Texas is the hold up on I-69.

Highway 59 is near interstate quality from around Lufkin down to Cleveland where it meets the current span of I69. Louisiana doesn't have any existing infrastructure to start from. And then there Louisiana politicians.

One of the easiest ways to spot a Houston transplant is when they call 59 “I-69”

There are probably a couple hundred other new/proposed federal road projects around the country that are needed and would serve way more trips than this project. Also there is a huge back log of maintenance and replacement work (LC interstate bridge) that is needed before a penny is spent on a new interstate like this.

I hope not. The lack of connectors makes traffic on I-49 manageable.

What I think would be useful is a toll road from east of Monroe to Alexandria and perhaps going to link up with I-10 at Lake Charles...you're not going to get something like that built any other way, I'd bet that you'd get all kinds of traffic on it as a East-West link between I-10 and I-20

You referring to 14 or 69? Both would be great improvements. LC needs a new bridge no doubt but it has a bypass which puts it in a better position than BR. As far as La having no pre-existing components of 14 (which is technically true), I think they are going to tie into highway 28 from pineville to LaSalle/Catahoula line and then use highway 84 to natchez somehow. Also whatever the highway from leesville to Alex is. Jonseville already has a decent interstate grade bridge on 84 just south of the 4 rivers and the Natchez bridges would work for it. Im guessing it would also tie into the pineville expressway maybe to get to highway 28 (which is basically a diet interstate but idk for sure.
