Youd be surprised. I watched a fire demonstration and this was one of the scenarios. Took a whole lot longer than you would think to fully engulf a car in flames.

if every single person in the world is out looking for you, then that assumes that they are not working, correct?
why not just go to a random place of business and hope that process of elimination sweeps of buildings do not find you within 5 days
no large buildings, yet in area densely populated
no building with much food, because obvious place to hide out
everyone is looking for me and thinking i could be anywhere
since they are not working and looking for me, i will figure out a way to pick a work place and hide out there

i had a idea about killing a homeless guy that had a similar stature and build as my own, taking his clothes, cutting his face skin off and wearing it, burning the body, and trying to hide out with the rest of the homeless and just keep to myself or pretend i was too sick to talk to anybody for 5 days. eventually though i think the homeless would be scrutinized pretty thoroughly, and my skinface mask would probably start to stink or shrink in 5 days. and then i'd have to explain where i got it.

Ok so fill up 30 gallon jugs with premium gasoline and put them in the car then also run a fuse into the fuel tank, then pour gas on top and set fire,

had a similar though, except maybe i could hide out in the air ducts in a large government building. but after awhile i'd have to go BM somewhere, and that'd probably be my undoing.
if all the things i said earlier about a limited number of teams, teams not working together, and the entire world not feasibly being able to look for you, something like this might work.

Just buy a big bottle of Jergens lotion and keep rubbing it on your skinface mask to keep it moist and hydrated. And keep sh*tting your pants hoping the smell will keep people away.

it's been 3 hours and 45 minutes since the question was proposed, and no one's come up with a great answer yet. you were all caught over 2 hours ago.
what's wrong with mine?
Assuming i start at my house, i'd first get my backpack and fill it with water bottles that i have at my house and whatever food i could find.
I would then drive my company car that i hate, and drive to hwy 90 at Gibson and get onto highway 20, old highway 90. I turn off at one of the many pump stations that aren't used anymore and find a way to hide the car in there in the swamp.
I'd then walk along the train tracks back to Schriever, about 10 miles. I'd find my way back to my Paw Paw's old house that they moved out of 15 years ago. They have an old barn there that has an upstairs and I know the people that live there don't use the barn. I am positive i can break into that barn without breaking anything since i know every nook and cranny of it from playing in it as a kid.
I'd then live there the next 5 days and since there's a toilet in it, i can relieve myself at times when i know no one is around.
If i thought for a second that someone was coming, i can easily hide up there. There's only 2 people that know that 2x12's were used as the floor joists for the second floor with plywood above and below it. Well anyone can know that. But, there's a one section at the end where the plywood was hinged and can open up as a secret compartment. My paw paw and I are the only two people that know about that, and my paw paw died recently. I still don't know what his intention was in building that. There's 2x4s under it, which were built for shelving so i know it can hold me if i get in it.
I would normally say avoid known places, but this is a house that my grandparents moved out of 15 years ago. I also figured i'd be throwing them off track by trying to hide in the swamp, assuming they even find my car.

jump into the first manhole you see.
And you'd likely encounter pipe just big enough to fit in an eventually run into a lift station. Not a good idea.
Grab some supplies from the house, ride a bike through the woods, dump bike in lake. Then walk to one of the new planned subdivisions where they've built the sewer system/underground utilities but the houses were never built b/c of the housing downturn.
I think I might be able to get there without being seen in under an hour. Dogs tracking me would be my main concern.

Traffic cameras caught your work truck, not to mention GPS leads police to it, all traced back to you, because the government would do a trace on all vehicles owned by your employer as well as you. You'be caught within an hour.
(Out of curiosity, why does your hatred of the company car play a part in your scenario?)

The car is your undoing. Company car? So you "hide it in the swamp?"
With 5 days to find you, you don't think ANYONE would figure out where you "spent a ton of time with your grandpa" when you were a kid and search there?
It's honestly likely one of the first places they would look. It's a remote location you grew up at and, hey wait a minute, they found your company car a few miles away.

I would buy a few bottles of whiskey, grab a good book, a playboy mag, my .22 pistol, a case of water, some REMs, and my journal then hunker down in the tree house my brother and I built at my parents old house that's still vacant. You can't even tell it's there from below or from the streets. It's going to be my HQ for the zombie acolypse as well.

Probably be caught on the train tracks.

nothing wrong with it unless there is a huge reward for you....then if anyone at all knows its your grand dad's place, it would be dismantled. and if your car is found within walking distance and theres any record of your granddad living in the vicinity,..... then. but all in all its one of the better plans.

quote:i think the first thing a search party would do is figure out the last known palce you were, and search a radius of, say, 100 miles...working off the assumption that you could possibly have driven 100 miles an hour for an hour before you had to get off a public road and start running/hiding. the possibility of boarding a plane would eventually be considered, but for the majority of people, this is the first place to start as it would be nearly impossible to buy a plane ticket, board a plane, fly somewhere, and get away from an airport in an hour.
what's wrong with mine?
if paw paw's place is anywhere in that 100 mile radius, you're as good as found, ESPECIALLY since you're hiding in a structure that's already built. once the search party stumbles upon a remote house, they're going to tear it apart looking. hiding in the floor or whatever won't help...they'll have dogs, infrared, other technology, etc. no chance.

Well, to be fair, he hates that car, so less likely they will look for it.

If my parents joined the hunt, they would probably look in the tree house so in theory my plan would only work if they remained loyal.

i think the only way you get away with this is by killing a stranger that nobody will be looking for within the 5 day span and locking up in their home.
