When you think about it like this, it makes no sense for the current generation to have this.

So you advocate not taking advantage of a system designed to benefit you in the future?
And before you bring it up, every generation in my recent memory has wondered if they’ll get the benefit and it keeps churning on.

What benefit? The beneifit of giving my benevolent government a near zero interest loan for 40+ years in the hopes ill live long enough to get most of it back?
My 401k is at like 21% return this year. You know what that extra "benefit" money I had to give to the govenrment would mean to me if I were allowed to keep it and use it as I see fit right now?
SS isn't a "benefit" for people like me. Its a redistribution of my earnings and it fricking pisses me off.

Care to share your wisdom on why the "any person" definition doesn't actually apply to any person and only applies to "alien individuals"?
I'm genuinely interested.

People don't hate it nearly as much as they should.
Automatic withdraw for both this and income tax should go away. If people had to stroke a check monthly to the US Governemnt for this shite, DC would get torched in a week. The way it is now, kids get mad their first few paychecks and then after that, it's just part of life they accept forever. I know it's by design but frick. If Trump wants to get me fired up, start talking about axing this bullshite.

the problem, as we all know, is that people are stupid. especially, ESPECIALLY, when it comes to money. (WooHoo! look at my tax refund! Ima git me SeaDoo, ya'll !!) you either take out by force now or have them be literally penniless when they stop working. (and then 100% wards of the state)
Posted on 11/9/24 at 11:24 am to DownshiftAndFloorIt
By design, you can’t just axe it. You have to account for what has been paid in somehow. If not from new workers paying in, then from where?

I am not too proud to admit that if I live long enough I would become a drain on the taxpayer if I did not have a SS benefit to supplement my savings. It’s just that simple
if that’s what it takes to keep that from happening then I’m glad it’s done. You cannot depend on individuals to do this voluntarily unless you are also in favor of exponentially higher taxes elsewhere to pay for it when the time comes…either that or compulsory euthanasia
can’t have it both ways

You son will 100% have to pay into SS. Withholding taxes are non negotiable.
This isn't necessarily true. Employees of the state of Louisiana do not pay SS. They pay in to state retirement and are exempt from paying SS. They then don't collect SS benefits when they retire, they collect state retirement from LASERS.
They do have to pay the Medicare portion of FICA though.

Cases like that are rare though. And someone (feds maybe?) are trying to close that and make employees like that pay
Maybe not anymore since there is a change in the white house
Still need it to legally work and file taxes, which OP has continued to ignore and will "look into it"
Just dumb to kick the can down the road. Pretty sure I only signed a form at the hospital and that was the extent of the work I had to do
OP is just a lazy, cry baby. Probably gives money to Kevin because the OT and Facebook told him not to

Why not just get him a SS.# go back and refile your taxes for last 3 yrs and get that child tax credit and invest it for the kid's sake?
You havent avoided opting him.into SS program. He can still choose whether or not to have a job which pays in or not. You've accomplished nothing and cost your family $ and time.

quote:it’s not that rare. It’s 6-7 million people nationwide that don’t have to pay SS because they work for a state or local government out of around 170 million total workers. (the number includes teachers, firefighters, police, etc that all have their own retirement systems).
Cases like that are rare though.
Still all those people have a SSN because not having one is an unneeded burden.

you’ve still not explained why you have a problem with your son getting a SSN in order to get his DL other than you don’t like the mandatory deduction which is going to happen anyway regardless or your son having a SSN or not…all that will happen is your son won’t get his money back.
no offense but that’s insane
