People don't visit NOLA because it's an awesome place to live.
it actually is. I've moved away several times and always have made my way back. There is a soul to thbe city that other places just don't possess. Makes it an awesome place to live imo.

I love it too, but that "soul" is slowly dissipating IMO as more and more out of towners move here, while more and more locals move away.

I'm hearing the same sentiment as the OP from several people. My sister is one and that's alarming to me, as she was always the quintessential ra ra Nola lady. She's moving soon.

Memphis

I was shocked at what a dump Memphis is; even compared to Camden, NJ.

This is literally the only reason anyone has ever given me as to why they visit New Orleans (myself included).

If you grew up in Tue N.O. area in the 90s you know violent crime was always a major problem.

Yes but it was centralized and generally limited to those who engaged in certain behaviors. I do not remember this much crime in the Quarter during the early 1990s. Obviously there was some, nut seemed to be a bit of a no-go zone. I spent many weekends down there and was fairly cognizant of what was reported.

2 years ago I would've agreed with you. Now that I'm house hunting, Jefferson parish is becoming much more appealing.

Harrison told FOX 8 that he understands the frustration after the recent violent attacks in the French Quarter. However, he pointed to NOPD crime stats that show violent crime is down 40 percent in the Quarter this year compared to 2016.

Well a lot come for conferences and sporting events....but the reason those conferences and sporting events choose NOLA is so the people that go to them can get shite faced drunk and act like asses. I mean face it NOLA isn't some mecca of music, art, sport (maybe fishing in the area), architecture, nature, etc....it is a mecca of debauchery and vices.

Thats great and thats your prerogative

Meanwhile 12 million visitors will continue to come and spend 6 billion dollars a year in the city

Not if the OT can do anything about it.

I do believe my post was comparing Quarter crime between the early 90s to now. A decrease from last year doesn't say much until it holds and becomes a pattern.

NOLA punches well above its weight in all of those categories

For example: how many markets the size of New Orleans has 2 major pro sports teams?
