You do realize that standard of living and quality of life are complety different right?

Quality of Life is much more important.

nobody is arguing in any serious manner that Lake Charles is an area of culture, "things to do", or a real possible replacement for what Nola once was

I was halfway serious about the plant expansion and the impending crash. Care to elaborate on your plans five years from now when y'all are BR2?

I'm sure Mao would agree, comrade! Well done, it's been an enlightening discussion.

Houston has all that, you just have to sit in your car for an hour driving in from Katy with all the other schmucks
That's like saying you got to get in your car and drive 45 minutes to get to the museums in New Orleans from Mandeville.

The brewery/festival/brunch/uber culture is in pretty much every decent sized city these days

Lake Charles is slightly bigger than Alexandria. I'm not saying it's a terrible place but if Texas ever legalized gambling most of the casinos would go away immediately. The plants are good jobs for some people that work in industry but there's not much there in my field.

Commuting ten minutes to work instead of an hour for starters.

well there is a bubble for sure and that will pop, but the expansions are still going to leave a TON of well paying operator jobs

they've opened up a whole little school just to pump out p-tech degrees for all the demand they're going to have long-term

the guys with experience/brains got jobs with Cheniere and other plants in Cameron doing LNG

if i stay here i'm for sure not buying a house for 5+ years until that bubble crashes

[quote]And there are other areas that aren't the most well-known spots in other areas of the city that aren't the hood and aren't 30-45 minutes away. [/quote

Well make them known

I've considered moving to Houston a few times. I've even considered places most of the OT wouldn't even consider (like some parts of the 3rd ward) but for where I would work and school options for the little ones . I saw no reason to leave NOLA, a place I enjoy living.

Probably. In pretty much every really big city there's tons of corporate jobs in the suburbs as well

we have like 150% of their population and that's not counting Moss Bluff (Which some people estimate is up to 30k people)

Side note. Watched a mini-documentary last night about how fricked the Katy Interstate was and how. Was about rethinking traffic congestion
