I love nola, got married there twice. I'd go back in a second if my doctor would let me, but his take is if I lose another kidney I won't survive it this time.

it's not really a realization as much as accepting it and stating it out loud

i am completely biased though bc i live in the lone bright spot (not saying it's utopia, but LC is not like any of the other major areas in LA)

The crime sucks and inexcusable, but I hate to be a broken record but it seriously only affects a small portion of the folks.

And maybe it's just me the way I'm built but maybe it's part of the allure that keeps me on my toes. I always have to have something going on around me at all times. I may be just going my regular mundane routine and walking to work, but on my way it's never the same, from the people I run into on the elevator to the elevator to the people in the neutral ground having an impromptu 2nd line, to a Nola party bounce bus passing, etc

Let the Houston folks have this one, saint...NOLA culture has nothing on driving 45 minutes to eat at an Indian restaurant in a strip mall

Meh... a lot of that is due to construction. I'm no construction expert but I think it ends eventually. When that plant is done expanding and all the welders and concrete guys leave, you'll be just another BR. Then you'll be firing police chiefs and having riots with the rest of them.....

And you will ask "Lucas is it cold there, with no black people?" But I will ignore your pleas because it will be too late. ....

i'm not saying LC is going to be Nola or BR but it's the only real area with economic progress in the state right now. you also have to read that in the context of the larger point that LA is doomed

The hill country is so overrated...dude, you have hills with oak trees on them? Tite. Doesn't get much better than that

I'm gonna guess you are some 19 year old college student that loves NOLA because he can grab a beer even though he's underage.

You have no argument for economy, business, industry, growth, job sectors, etc. Your entire standpoint is based off of food and bars? Now that I look, you haven't really said anything...just here to bash anything west of LA?

i mean lets be clear, outside of the architecture within the city limits of Nola, it's really ugly surrounding the area

you cannot shite on the hill country when your geographic calling card is a swamp

Here's the thing... you don't have to leave your section of Houston if you don't want to.

If you live on the West side, you really don't have to venture to North East Houston for any reason. It's not like you're driving all over the entire city all the time.

But if there is some really good restaurant on the other side of town, you still have that option to venture out and find something new.

Good guess but way off...I work and live in the Bay Area. Louisiana and Texas both suck

We went to the AMC Palace in Elmwood.

Ever since Clearview AMC/Clearview Mall instituted the the rule where all minors had to be accompanied by adults after 7PM(?), Elmwood went to shite.

Parents are dropping their kids off so the movie theater can babysit them.

Last time I went to Elmwood, was well over 6-7 years ago. I wouldn't step foot in that place again if you paid me.

To be fair, if someone truly enjoys living in Lake Charles then that's great.

Nola is not for everyone. I completely understand why some people would look at the negatives and take a pass. I just don't understand the contant need some people have to shite on it other than just being butthurt about the statues.

since i've been posting in this thread, statues haven't been mentioned once

we're talking about economic progress, quality of life, etc

Nola is the one major metro area and it's been losing major businesses the past decade. the structural issues of the city are so great that i don't see why anyone would be optimistic that Nola will be able to grow in any sort of major way because of these constraints. what major company is going to relocate its HQ (and bring all those good, white collar jobs)?

BR is a wasteland and it is literally built in a way that essentially destroys any real push it could make. it also suffers from the same institutional issues that Nola does (crimes, schools, etc).

Laffayette has potential but has shown that it's still way too reliant on the price of oil
