What do you think would happen if we decided to immediately go back to normal?

People would just go one about their lives and some people would get sick, and an extremely small percentage of them would become very sick and possibly die.

I mean, it's basic math.

Basic math says the deaths will immediately double if we go back to normal?

Well it would be psychological impact at that point. Why wouldn’t it be normal in 2022 if we spend 2021 vaccinating? Would it take until 2023 to be back to normal?

even then, we're in dire economic straights for a while

think about all the money that has to be printed just to keep people at a subsistence level. we're already printed trillions. i think we added like 25-33% to our current national debt. that is INSANE and a lot for a monetary system to absorb in one year

But hey, it's all for a virus that has an estimated IFR around ~1%.

Thankfully, listening to Iron Maiden had me prepared for this eventuality:

How will that affect you personally? Are you just throwing in the towel on all those "wasted" years? Or will you continue to be an upper-middle-class e-bro who goes on with his life as general normal? My guess is the latter.

TBH, I think a lot of people who are pissed about it keep a low profile online out of fear of losing their jobs. HR types at many workplaces are basically thought police seeking to punish even the slightest examples of non-progressive ideas vocalized by members of their company. There’s definitely a subsection of the country that is completely terrified of this virus and has been convinced that fear is a virtue and individual freedom is dangerous to themselves and others, there is a subsection of the country very vocally against lockdowns who feel betrayed by their governments and angry at the lack of transparency and any semblance of input from the public, but the vast majority of people are simply keeping their heads down trying to wait this out without losing their jobs or making themselves a target for social media lynch mobs.

That's the point. No one is "for another year."

The actions and words of elected officials (local, state, and national) suggest otherwise.

Then do it in December or March or July or whenever shite gets more normal.

December? No way. MAYBE July.

What do you actually do. How has your business been affected? Based on your user name, if you live in Texas outside a major city, you can basically live life as you normally were.

I’m a teacher. So far, I am very lucky that I still have a job and am not impacted aside from teaching a classroom that is about 15% full. One of my favorite things to do is go see our minor league baseball team. That’s cancelled. My wife loves to go to the movies. For a long time, we couldn’t do that. Going to a bar was a no-no as well. Locally, my life is decent. When we are looking to travel, it’s tough. Depending on where you go, lots of shite could be closed.

I do. You.

“My life is mostly unchanged. My job is easier. Movies are back. MiLB will be back next season. But we can only freely vacation in 47 states. Cancel 2021!”

Uh...Karens want to cancel 2021. I don’t. But our faithful leaders will dictate the terms.

Karens don’t make decisions for you and yours. The title of the thread is literally you planning to cancel 2021.

Every public beach and national park is open. Flights are ridiculously cheap. Airbnb is as safe as you trust the owners. If you can’t find a vacation sometime in the next year, that’s on you.

No...it’s me preparing for another wasted year. That’s not the same as mean cancelling my own shite. I’m not sure if you are this dense, or just looking for a nice argument tonight.

Tell me...where can I catch some live pro baseball next season? Will I be allowed to go see a Spurs game next year? If I go out of the country, will I be forced to quarantine and show documentation?

You don’t know the answer to shite. It’s all projecting at this point...and none of the above situations are within my control or yours.

You seem fine with daddy govt slowly taking over. Just look at New Mexico’s ‘reset’. By the time you get your head out of your arse, you’ll be locked down too.

You’ve apparently already let daddy government take over your decisions. Quit whining about what you couldn’t do a couple months ago or aren’t certain you’ll be able to do a year from now and enjoy what you can do now. You seem fine working your union job and bitching behind your keyboard while still submitting to CNN. You are planning to waste an entire year because you missed a few minor league baseball games. I am living my life.
