the number of people who go to take a photo of the pyramid and don't go to the museum is depressingly high, actually.

I will, and I disagree. I took a picture of the glass pyramid and didn't go into the Louvre because the line was outrageous.
"I disagree, museum is the only draw"

If you disagree it's an icon of Paris, why bother taking a pic of it?

I took 1200 pictures on that trip. No everything is an icon. It was there and it looked pretty cool.

Most (in)famous project? The new entrance to the Louvre;
I always wondered who Pei had dirty pictures of as his company's massive failure - building the John Hancock Tower in Boston - would have sunk most firms.
The quote below is just some of the problems with it (I am old enough to remember the news coverage), the part of the wiki ....well it was full of architectural problems...
There were problems with the innovative use of blue reflective glass in a steel tower: Entire 4' × 11', 500-lb (1.2 × 3.4 m, 227 kg) windowpanes detached from the building and crashed to the sidewalk hundreds of feet below. Police closed off surrounding streets whenever winds reached 45 mph (72 km/h). LINK

I used to think that the Louvre Pyramid looked completely out of place - and I guess it does - but now it is growing on me. I was there a few weeks ago and spent a lot of time in the Louvre courtyard. One day we had lunch on the portico of Cafe Marly overlooking the pyramid. I consider myself a fan. RIP.

It's always like that. I'm neither pro nor anti-pyramid, but people adjust and it blends into the surroundings in time while gaining status as an icon.
People bitched about Haussmann and they bitched about Eiffel and now I'm sure Parisians generally appreciate both.
Probably about to see something similar happen with Notre-Dame.

I hope they rebuild Notre Dame exactly the way it was. I was there when it burned and saw the fire almost from the beginning. It was a heartbreaking sight.

Low key one of the most brilliant and creative human beings that ever walked on this earth. He doesn't get enough love and appreciation for what he's done IMO. RIP IM Pei. You were brilliant.
